Angela Lansbury married Richard Cromwell with the assumption that their marriage would be forever happy. However, the actor was gay, so the couple divorced less than a year after moving in together. On the other hand, the actress would ultimately meet another spouse, with whom she would have a wonderful marriage.

Angela Lansbury is an Irish-British and American singer and actress, and she is recognized for her decades-long career in the entertainment industry. She is 96 years old and now resides in the U.S.

Although she began her acting career in 1940, she did not reach global acclaim until 1984, when she was hired in the role of wise mystery writer Jessica Fletcher in the TV show “Murder, She Wrote.”

Following that, she was hired in a range of further roles, and she progressively positioned herself as one of the industry’s most outstanding performers. Despite her sudden rise to prominence, Lansbury has never forgotten how rough the road to get there was, beginning with her childhood. Her father passed away from sickness in 1934, while she was just nine years old. Her life took a drastic turn for the worse after that awful tragedy.

In 2014, eight decades later, she said that her father’s death was the incident that most affected her life. According to Lansbury, nothing had ever affected her in such a deep way as the terrible tragedy. She had lost interest in her studies and was trying to cope with her loss.

She started her career as an actor, and by 1946, she had received an Academy Award nomination and was supporting her mother and brothers. The actress married American actor Richard Cromwell at 19 years old. Lansbury described him as “stylish and charming,” but their marriage lasted barely a year. On the day Cromwell broke Lansbury’s heart, the singer reported that when she got home from work, her husband had left her a note that read:

Sorry, I don’t know what to say.

Lansbury’s world came crumbling down around her after discovering through a publicist that Cromwell was gay, and she had no clue what was going on. Her marriage ended as swiftly as it had begun, since she could do nothing to remedy the circumstances.

Lansbury recalled that she was upset when Cromwell left, but the two of them remained friends until his de.a.th in 1960. Furthermore, the actress said that she had no regrets about her impulsive decision to marry Cromwell. In her own words:

“It did not do me any damage or hurt me in any way.” I was taken aback by the ending since I had not expected it in any way. It was a dreadful mistake I made as a young girl that I really regret. But I have no regrets.

Not long after ending her romance with Cromwell, Lansbury met and fell in love again with her agent and manager, Peter Shaw. The wedding took place in 1949, and the couple stayed married for 53 years, until Shaw di.e.d. of heart illness in 2003.

The actress’s husband’s dea..th placed her in a state of complete grief. Lansbury states that she and the manager had a wonderful marriage, something not many married couples get to enjoy.

Lansbury said that Shaw meant everything to her, and she noted that the two of them were partners in everything. But, perhaps most crucially, the “Mur.der, She Wrote” actress recognized their entire devotion to one another.

Lansbury and Shaw’s marriage provided Shaw’s son David from a former marriage with a devoted mother in the shape of Lansbury. Anthony, the couple’s son, was born in January 1952, and Deidre, their daughter, was born in April 1953. The couple’s first child was Anthony.

After her children’s birth, Lansbury tried to find the right balance between her work life and her new duty as a mother. She was conscious that, although the former was vital, her children were the most important thing in her life.

As a result, the actress placed her family, especially her children, above everything else. Shaw’s mother was always there for her when her job needed her to be away from her family.

Notwithstanding this, Lansbury has said that she deeply regrets ever spending time away from her kids and that it was something she should not have done. In her own words:

“It was a dumb thing to do.” You can’t be anyplace else right now but with your children.”

She pondered on her dad’s noble nature, recalling how he emphasized his family’s well-being and provided them with his complete attention at all times. According to reports, the actress stated:

My grandpa had no hobbies since he regarded his family as his major focus.

However, despite spending a significant amount of time with their teams, Lansbury and Shaw’s children proceeded down the wrong path despite their parents’ best efforts. The couple discovered in the 1960s that Anthony and Deidre had been bad friends and had been involved with drugs.

The actress went on to add that before she knew about it, she and her husband had no idea what was going on. Despite the fact that none of them had personal experience with drug misuse, they were all clear that something had to be done for their children.

As a consequence, Lansbury suggested transferring Anthony and Deidre to Ireland to shield them from additional harmful influences. Shaw accepted their offer, and they moved. The couple’s decision proved successful, as it resulted in a behavioral adjustment in their children.

Lansbury’s children are all over the age of 60 and accomplished in their respective fields. David, the oldest, ultimately took over as President of his father’s company, Corymore Productions. Deidre’s career path diverged from that of her brothers. In Los Angeles, she and her chef husband opened Enzo and Angela, a restaurant that specialized in Italian food. More than two decades have passed since the two first worked together in the kitchen.
