Because of new technology, the man meets his family for the first time, and his reaction is priceless…

Stargardt’s disease is a rare genetic eye condition identified in Gene Purdie at the age of 16. Although it commonly begins in childhood, this sickness can occur in adults as well. Purdie had the ailment from infancy, but doctors weren’t able to diagnose him until he was in his teens.

Purdie’s condition caused him to lose a significant portion of his vision, and he is now legally blind. The disorder affects specific portions of the field of vision. Purdie has gradually lost the ability to see the core of his vision, only the peripheral.

Purdie’s vision isn’t perfect, but the severity of his sickness hasn’t stopped him from living a normal life. Lincoln, his son, was born after he married Joy.

Joy asked for help showing her husband’s growing brood in a letter to “Rachael Ray” presenter in November 2015. Ray and eSight collaborated to bring cutting-edge technologies to individuals in need. Joy had seen an episode in which the program helped a woman with Stargardt’s disease see her sisters smile for the first time in years.

Since being diagnosed with Stargardt’s disease, Purdie has only been able to recognize the shapes of objects. He has never been able to experience the pleasure of staring into his wife’s attractive face or the sweet emotions that his small son displays.

Purdie is aware that he is missing out in many ways, particularly on seeing his kid grow up, but he is appreciative of all the wonderful things in his life and makes the most of it by partaking in a range of interests and activities.

But all changed when Purdie accepted an invitation to the “Rachel Ray” program and had the opportunity to test out a pair of cutting-edge spectacles that the technology’s inventors were only beginning to experiment with. Purdie could see fully for the first time as an adult, but his first glimpse was toward his wife and children.

Joy was holding their young son, Lincoln, as she watched the performance from the sidelines. Purdie remarked, “Oh, she’s pretty,” upon seeing Joy. What a wonderful experience it was to finally be able to visit his wife! Joy sobbed as she realized that her spouse could now see her face. Despite the fact that they had been together for a while, it was the first time she had ever been able to recognize her husband’s physical presence.

The only reason that technology has been able to bring a loving couple and their child together in this touching moment is because it has reunited families.
