When a 12-year-old boy and a 10-year-old girl married, they had no idea what would happen to them. Despite having been through some of life’s most difficult experiences, the couple stated they still loved each other after 91 years.

The story of Zechariah and Shama’a is unique. The young couple spent their formative years in Yemen, where they were reared as orphans and married at a young age because that’s how things were done there.

People in Yemen used to enjoy it when orphans married when they were between the ages of 10 and 12. Zechariah and Shama’a did the expected thing and moved in together. They had no idea what was about to happen to them.

Getting Through Difficult Times
Shama’a recalled that she and her husband had never lived in luxury. She lived in a donkey stable after marrying Zechariah because the young couple had no home or family. She acknowledged it:

“We had issues. We’d gone through the worst kind of agony. “No, there isn’t any.”

When things didn’t go as planned, the pair didn’t give up or become depressed. They became one other’s strength, and one day their lives improved.

Leaving Their Home
Zechariah and Shama’a were among the first of their faith to migrate from Yemen to Israel in 1948. After experiencing difficulties in their homeland, the couple relocated to a safer location.

When asked what made them happy as a married couple, Zechariah responded simply.
When Zechariah and Shama’a went to the nascent country of Israel, they had a fresh start. The couple had 11 children in addition to making their life better.

He enjoyed telling jokes.
When a BBC News reporter enquired about his children, Zechariah replied, “I already can’t remember how many there were.” They also had 64 grandchildren and great-grandchildren at the time of the interview.

Zechariah stated that his wife would be the “first and last woman” he would marry. He enjoyed mocking Shama’a since he knew she enjoyed his jokes. They stated throughout the interview that they had been married for 91 years.

“I never kicked her out,” Zechariah joked. Shama’a then stated something, and Zechariah inquired, “What? “Did I discard you?”

“Okay. Okay. Shhh!” Shama’a provided an answer. The lady enjoyed her husband’s dry sense of humor. It was one of the aspects of their relationship that kept it fascinating.

What Made Them So Content Together?
Some people may become bored after living with the same person for over 90 years, but Zechariah and Shama’a are not those people.

Shama’a stated that she and Zechariah rarely fought. When asked what made them happy as a married couple, Zechariah responded simply:

“God placed her in my path.” “I struck gold and won her over.”

All the women surrounding Zechariah liked him, but he preferred Shama’a over them all. He also said that God helped him and his wife live together, and Shama’a said she was happy to spend most of her life with him.
