Liang Zifu and Li Suying, a Chinese couple, married 60 years ago.
They didn’t have any money or a place to live at the moment.
They couldn’t afford to buy a house or an apartment, and they couldn’t afford to pay the rent.
As a result, the couple created a family nest in a cave.
Under the stone arches, there is a bedroom, a kitchen, and a living room.
Over time, they got used to farming — chickens, and pigs.
They ate mostly fruits and vegetables.
In a neighboring village, clothes and other necessities were exchanged for pork and eggs.
There were soon children in the household, whom Li gave birth to in the cave.
When the boys and daughters reached adulthood, they migrated to the city, while their parents remained.
When the provincial government found out about this family, they were offered an apartment in the city where their children also live, but the 86-year-old husband and his 81-year-old wife refused.
They say that they have been used to living in a cave for so many decades.
They like silence and privacy.
Therefore, they do not want to destroy the marital idyll.
