We are used to seeing celebrities with extensive make-up, and when they are not, we may not recognize them. Some women seem natural and lovely without make-up, while others do not.

Here are some celebrities wearing and not wearing make-up.

1. Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato is often regarded as a no-makeup selfie icon. They’ve done many in the past, including a nude, no makeup, no retouching session with Vanity Fair to embrace and reinforce the notion of good body image to others. And, although the singer generally looks amazing, this one fell flat. Maybe it’s the blond hair with black roots or the odd viewpoint, but we would have assumed this was the grown-up Jerry Maguire child before Demi.

2. Tyra Banks

Tyra Banks is inherently attractive, and to think she has to dress up to be beautiful is ludicrous. After all, it wasn’t her cosmetics that got her the honor of becoming the first African-American woman on the cover of Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. But, yep, her weird eyes and derp-y facial expression here aren’t helping her. There’s definitely an ex-girlfriend feeling going on.

3. Katy Perry

Once, Katy Perry’s then-husband Russell Brand shared this now-infamous, soon-to-be removed photo on Twitter. Their marriage lasted an additional year and a half, which is precisely one year, five months, and thirty days longer than everyone predicted after he made such a stupid decision. And this isn’t meant to put Katy down in any way—she’s a knockout, for sure—but no one on Earth, no matter how beautiful they are, wants a photo taken of them as soon as they wake up to be all over the internet.

4. Jessica Alba

Jessica Alba, like most of the others on this list, is a natural beauty who did something embarrassing in addition to not wearing cosmetics. Nobody looks good in a blurry, sweaty post-workout photo, but a woman who is essentially the face of her own billion-dollar corporation ends up looking like a hot mess. People, it’s only perspiration. Relax.

5. Kylie Jenner

This Kylie Jenner “no makeup” photo was questioned since she plainly still wears eyeliner, but we included it because the nose and lips she currently has make her appear like an entirely different person. Unless Revlon produces a crème foundation that shaves down nasal cartilage and a lip pencil that serves as a tire pump, it has to be more than just cosmetics.

6. Lady Gaga

Lady Gaga is the most well-known artist for her outlandish appearance. From the butcher dress to the strange egg thing to the numerous other outfits that made her appear like she was going to a masquerade party in Hell, the “Born This Way” singer never ceases to amaze — which is probably why you were wondering whether this was actually her.
