Maddie’s Voice Astounds the Judges. The 11-year-old stuns the judges with an amazing version of «Amazing Grace»

It’s hard to imagine, but the 17th season of America’s Got Talent has just begun, which means the quest for the country’s finest performers has begun once again.

While virtually everyone who auditions on the program does so on stage, one audience member who became a competitor on Tuesday night’s broadcast piqued everyone’s interest, including the judges’.

Madison Baez Taylor told AGT before her «impromptu» performance that, although being just 11 years old, it had always been her desire to participate in the program. Since she was four years old, the California native has been visiting program tapings.

«I’m the greatest America’s Got Talent fan there is,» she stated. «And now I’m here.»

While the other AGT hopefuls waited for their auditions, Maddie was asked if she wanted to watch the program from the crowd. She gladly consented and joined her father in the crowd.

The judges had no idea she was in the crowd.

Throughout the commercial breaks, a microphone is handed around, enabling audience members to sing in order to keep the audience interested. Maddie was handed the microphone just before they began shooting.

Not only did she earn an applause, but all of the judges turned to see who was singing in the crowd.

Simon Cowell suggested she go on stage and audition, which she did, singing a strong and heartbreaking performance of «Amazing Grace.»

«We do encourage folks to sing a song at the breaks, and I was literally just walking back in when I heard this voice, wondering, ‘Who the heck is that?'» Cowell said. «And then I see this little figure in the crowd, and it’s you.»

When asked how she planned to spend the $1 million prize money, Maddie said, «Cancer research,» through tears.

Chris, her father, has been fighting stage four cancer for the last nine years.

«I’ve been fighting cancer for the past nine years, and that’s how she started to sing,» he said as he joined his daughter on stage. She would sing to me in the hospital throughout my operations and chemo treatments. She’d perform for me and help me improve. I’m doing quite well now.

Eventually, it came time to vote, and although it seemed to be a foregone conclusion, Howie Mandel made everyone’s choice easy by pressing the Golden Buzzer and sending Maddie right to the live concerts.

Everyone in the audience was moved to tears, and it was clear that Maddie’s dream had come true.
