In 2019, the 72-year-old Frenchman accomplished something out of a science fiction movie: he swam all across the Atlantic Ocean in a barrel.
Jean-Jacques Savin’s voyage was a true adventure.

The barrel was manufactured by the guy himself; its length is 3 meters, and its breadth is a little more than 2 meters.
This unit is as tall as a man, yet it weighs 450 kilograms.

Inside, he has completely outfitted his capsule.
And he proceeded to carefully analyze the current and wind patterns for the following several days of his expedition.

Inside the barrel, there is a bed area, a sink, and drawers containing culinary supplies. Jean-Jacques even created little portholes to keep an eye on what was going on around him.

The most intriguing aspect of this barrel was that it lacked a sail, an engine, and a driver’s seat.
It was basically flowing with the stream, depending on how the wind moved.

The voyage would take them from the Canary Islands to the Caribbean.
The guy anticipated his expedition to take three months, but he ended up swimming for 122 days, nearly four months.

And here is the reason for all of it.
As Jean-Jacques puts it, he just enjoys the feelings he gets when traveling.

He was able to put his power to the test and demonstrate to everybody around him that if there is a desire to be happy, age is not an impediment.
