One of White’s most well-known performances was as Sue Ann Nivens on “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” in 1973. She joined the program during its fourth season and surprised viewers with her comic timing and ability to play a character so unlike her own. For the part, she received two Emmy Awards for Best Actress.

She continued her groundbreaking career by starring in series such as “The Golden Girls,” “The Bold and the Beautiful,” and “Hot in Cleveland,” as well as films such as “The Proposal” and “Toy Story 4.”

White had been living alone for quite some time. She did not marry when her third husband, Allen Ludden, whom she had been with for 20 years di.ed in 1981.  She has three stepchildren from her marriage to Ludden, whom she helped raise and has been a caring mother to.
