Tony Dow and his wife reside in Los Angeles in a house that represents their creative sensibilities. The actor was in hospice care in July 2022, accompanied by close friends and relatives, while he faced a life-threatening sickness.
Most Tony Dow fans are aware of how he rose to prominence in 1957 with his appearance in “Leave It to Beaver,” which ran until 1963. He portrayed Wally Cleaver in it after beginning his acting career with little experience.
Tony married his first wife, Carol Marlow, in 1969, only a few years after the classic series finished. On March 26, 1973, the couple welcomed their first and only child, son Christopher Dow, but their marriage ended in divorce in 1980.

Tony married his present wife, Lauren Shulkind, the same year he divorced Marlow. The actor and the mosaic artist had been married for 42 years and kept their personal life quiet in 2022.
Lauren rose to stardom the year she married her husband, but she didn’t reveal much about her personal life to the public. She was born in New York in 1947, but she met her renowned husband in Kansas City in 1978.
According to a Facebook post on Tony’s account, Lauren married Tony on June 16, 1980.Their wedding took place on Laguna Beach, surrounded by tidal pools and hermit crabs.
CBS Sunday Morning interviewed the happy couple over a variety of issues on January 18, 2022. When Lauren was asked what she liked most about her spouse, she replied:
“His tenderness, gentleness, and fragility…”
Lauren’s description seemed similar to Tony’s character, Cleaver, and the interviewer wondered whether the actress had part of the character’s characteristics. The actor’s wife elaborated:
“I believe the character has a lot of Tony in it.” They are inextricably linked. “Wally reminded me a lot of Tony.”
AFTER “LEAVE IT TO BEAVER,” TONY’S QUIET HOME LIFE

Tony and his wife enjoyed a tranquil existence in their modest house after “Leave it to Beaver” ended. During the CBS Sunday Morning interview with the couple, the actor showed off one of his sculptures in his home studio.
The workshop was built entirely of wood, with multiple windows for ventilation and various items on exhibit. Tony, who was now a sculptor, would devote around 50 hours to one of his noteworthy works.

Lauren and her spouse also had a studio where she created mosaics. Tony did some of his best work when he was depressed, and his art, medicine, and therapy all helped him get better.

The star’s charming house has a picket fence surrounding its garden and trees for shade. He and the interviewer sat on a colorful stone chair built of rocks and cement, with throws for back support.

A table was set up in front of what seemed to be a fountain. Succulents and other plants grew all around the house, and a set of wooden steps and a terrace gave the couple a great view of their surroundings.
The interior of Tony’s home included various dishes used for décor, as well as a flashback photograph of the couple when they were younger. The star’s wooden-beamed home was located in the hills above Los Angeles.

Lauren’s husband retained certain mementos despite the fact that “Leave it to Beaver” ended many years ago. He had photos of himself and other co-stars; novels; a pennant from the show’s fictitious Mayfield High; a bound copy of the series scripts; and a box of Kellogg’s Corn Flakes with Tony and a co-face star on them.
The actor also showed off his garage, which housed the first automobile he had purchased, as well as bicycles and other trinkets. Tony said that his childhood and teenage years as an actor were hard because he didn’t know who he was outside of his character.
DOW’S HOSPITALIZATION AND THE HEALTH TRUTH
A few months after Tony and his wife were interviewed, the star’s family disclosed some devastating news. Early in May 2022, Lauren wrote on her husband’s Facebook page that he had been told he had cancer.
“Dear Tony Dow friends and fans, I’m sorry to break the bad news to you. Unfortunately, Tony has been diagnosed with cancer once again.

The actor’s wife claimed that he was “bravely” confronting “this truth,” and that the diagnosis was “very painful.” However, the statement did not clarify what form of cancer the actor had.
Later that month, Tony shared in a follow-up post that he’d started immunotherapy, which looked to be working. He described how he could get up and walk without assistance and how he felt better every day, adding:
“I have a big day with the doctor on the 31st and am hoping for a nice report.”
Unfortunately, this isn’t Tony’s first health worry in recent years. In August 2021, he was hospitalized again with pneumonia, with his family telling TMZ that it was unrelated to COVID-19.
Tony’s death was reported to be false.
In June 2022, Tony’s management team posted a message on his Facebook account detailing his ups and downs with his illness. He went in and out of the hospital for treatment and problems, but the actor and his wife maintained a good attitude.
The crew, however, got a call from Tony’s [Dow] daughter-in-law [Melissa Dow], confirming that he was still alive but not in good health.
Later that month, his management company deleted a message claiming he’d died. According to his wife, Judy Twersky, a longtime friend of the actor, verified that he was still alive.
Lauren had informed her that Tony was in hospice care, she said. Twersky said that the actor’s wife didn’t know why the management team got the wrong information out.
In late July 2022, Tony’s sole kid, Christopher, posted on his father’s Facebook page that his father was at home but “in his last hours.” He and his wife, Melissa, he added, were at the star’s side, as were several of his friends who had visited.
Christopher remarked on his father’s “fighting heart.” An update said that Lauren, who was sad about her husband’s death, told his management staff and begged them to tell his fans, which they did.
However, the team got a call from Tony’s daughter-in-law, who revealed that he was still alive but in poor health. Fans were hopeful that the star would recover.
