A single father assists an elderly lady in trimming her lawn and soon gets a call from her lawyer

Jake saw his neighbor laboring to mow the grass and stopped to assist, bringing his three-year-old kid with him. The elderly lady was appreciative of the assistance, and they began speaking about life. Soon later, he realized that the elderly lady was more than simply grateful. She helped many people.

«When we go home tonight, buddy, we’re going to order some pizza.» «What are your thoughts?» Andy, Jake’s kid, was seated in his car seat, playing with his iPad. Jake groaned as the child simply hummed at his father. They were on their way home from the pediatric psychologist’s office, and he had no clue how he would pay for Andy’s sessions.

His mother’s death a year earlier had an impact on his kids. Jake was concerned about his growth since he seldom talked. Jake’s main caretaker advised seeing a psychologist, but his job insurance would not cover it, and the consultations would cost an extra $2,000 per month.

He moaned as he approached their block, but slowed down when he saw Mrs. Nichols stooping down and trimming her lawn with gardening scissors.

Jake checked the rearview mirror; his son was still focused on the iPad. «Hey, buddy. He came to a complete stop in front of the old woman’s house and said, «How about we help our neighbor mow her lawn?»

«I don’t get it.» «What does that deal have to do with me?»
Jake grinned as Andy glanced up from his iPad. «Let’s go, friend,» he remarked as he exited. He assisted his kid in getting out of the vehicle, and they left his iPad behind.

«Hello, Mrs. Nichols!» «Do you need assistance?» Jake inquired as he approached the woman, holding his son’s hand.

«Oh! Jake, my darling. «Are you certain? » I simply don’t know how to use the lawnmower. » The elderly lady smiled, one hand clutching her lower back as though in distress.

«You could have dialed my number, Mrs. Nichols.» «I would have happily assisted, but we were out of town today,» Jake responded, smiling. «Where has the lawnmower gone?»

«It’s in the garage, darling.» Hello, Andy. Why don’t you join me on my porch for some cookies? » The elderly lady asked the youngster, who nodded.Jake thought he detected a grin when he mentioned cookies, but he wasn’t sure.

While Jake went to the garage to grab the lawnmower, Andy followed the woman and waited for her to deliver the cookies to the porch.

Her garden was severely overgrown, so the task took some time, and Andy even came over and pretended to assist at one point. He promptly returned to consuming more cookies.

Mrs. Nichols surprised Jake by patting his shoulder. «Hello, Jake. «Andy fell asleep despite the commotion,» she remarked gently. «How are things going for you?»

«Well, whatever. Mrs. Nichols, it’s not easy. He was devastated by my wife’s death. It’s remarkable what kids his age can grasp. » We just came back from our first session with a child psychologist… «Jake stated. He instantly unloaded all of his present problems, including his inability to pay for the therapy.

«Doesn’t anybody know how to help you?» «May I give you some money?» Mrs. Nichols inquired.

«No. Our whole family is having trouble making ends meet. «These are hard times, Mrs. Nichols,» Jake said when he finally finished his job.

«I appreciate it, darling.» How about staying for dinner? The elderly lady volunteered.

«Not at all, ma’am. I promised Andy pizza for tonight, and I believe he’s exhausted from today. To be honest, I’m exhausted too. However, you are always welcome. «Call me when you need your yard mowed again.

He scooped up his child, put him in the vehicle, and they drove home, which was just five houses away.

Mrs. Nichols waved them off, her lips pursed the whole time.

A few days later, Jake got a call from an unfamiliar number, and when he answered, he grimaced. «Hello?»

«Are you Mr. Collins?» «Jake Collins?» enquired a masculine voice.

«Yes?»

«My name is Mr. Cohen.» «I’m a lawyer representing Mrs. Nichols in the sale of her existing home,» said the voice.

Jake cocked his brow. «I had no idea she was moving.»

«Well, okay. Mrs. Nichols has finally found a buyer, and the transaction is progressing swiftly. «I’m going to need your banking information,» the lawyer said emphatically.

«I don’t get it.» «What does that sale have to do with me?»

Didn’t Mrs. Nichols tell you? She’s handing you $100,000 from the selling gains. » «It’s similar to an «inheritance,» but she wants you to get it right now,» Mr. Cohen stated, and Jake’s mouth fell.

«I…» that’s very generous,» he said to the phone, and then his phone rang. Mrs. Nichols was standing outside, beaming. Jake indicated he was on the phone.

«It is, indeed, Anyway, please email me the information as soon as possible so that we may begin the transfer. «Thank you,» the lawyer said as he hung up the phone.

Before Mrs. Nichols could say anything, Jake approached her and held her hard, his eyes welling up with tears. She gave him a lengthy back rub.

Jake thanked her sincerely after they chatted for hours that day. He also vowed to pay her a visit wherever she went, which she scoffed at.

Andy’s therapy was paid for with the money, and he gradually improved. He was talking, laughing, and playing with others by the time he started pre-school. Jake was well aware that none of this would have been possible without Mrs. Nichols’ assistance.
