Woman confronts the thief of her wallet and offers him a choice that brings him to tears

Jessica Reaves was shopping at her neighborhood grocery store in 2013 when she discovered her wallet was missing. The mother of four and head of a Christian outreach team at her church in Guthrie, Oklahoma, thought that a guy standing close behind her stole her wallet.

Instead of fleeing to the store’s security or contacting the cops, Jessica did something utterly unexpected that has now gone viral. Jessica approached and challenged the thief.

“I’m going to offer you an option,” she said. Give me your wallet, and I’ll forgive you right now. I’ll even walk you to the front and pay for your groceries. Or, she would phone the cops.

“He dug into his pocket and handed it back to me,” she told The Huffington Post, adding that “when we walked to the front, he began weeping.” He repeated apologizing and expressing his embarrassment. ”

They headed to the checkout desk, and as luck would have it, his purchases totaled $27—exactly the amount Jessica had in her wallet.

“I never carry cash with me.” When I arrived at the checkout line that day, his (the robber’s) total was little more than $27, and I had $28 in cash in my wallet. So I knew it wasn’t me right away. “Christ was at work at that time,” she told the Christian Post.

The guy told her that he would never forget what she had done, saying, “‘I’m broke, I have kids, I’m humiliated, and I’m sorry.”

Jessica said that she was inspired to act by a text she remembered. “As I saw him, a verse from Luke came to me, which essentially states, ‘If someone should steal your coat, you should also give them your shirt,'” she said.
