Warm, inviting, and breathtaking. These are the ideal adjectives to describe Matt and Heidi Horton’s house. This home is modeled after a Nordic longhouse, a long, narrow structure where Vikings resided in the ninth century. It’s also full of wonderful Scandinavian interior design ideas, which make this little home even more intriguing. From the outside, the small house appears remarkable and intriguing!
It was built of high-quality, long-lasting materials and was also well-designed. The couple made excellent use of the remaining half-acre part by planting lovely gardens and building a practical greenhouse. According to Heidi, they are attempting to be as self-sufficient as possible, which is why they are considering producing their own food. Heidi also built a separate studio and space for herself so that she could work from the comfort of her own home.
On the one hand, Matt enjoys performing some handy work in their large garage. While on vacation in Monaco, they were inspired to create a longhouse-like home after staying in an Airbnb with a similar ambiance. They also found they were living in an 800-square-meter mansion but barely occupying around a third of it. They now live in a smaller home, but they have made it cozier and more useful.
The house’s contemporary interior design demonstrates this. Most tiny homes are narrow and congested on the inside, but Heidi and Matt’s abode is surprisingly roomy. The mix of plywood and concrete flooring makes the area warm and inviting. Their lounge is a comfortable place with a large couch and well-made chairs. The home is designed in a Scandinavian style, so the modern interior is simple and clean, with no extra rooms, furniture, or clutter.
With lots of open space, the whole room is bright and welcoming. There is a low-emission woodstove around the corner for a more relaxed ambience, which also works well when the temperature is really low. The kitchen retains its intimate and friendly ambience. Heidi feels that the kitchen is the heart of the house, so they designed it to be a room that both of them would love. They are equipped with everything they need, including a burner, dishwasher, and microwave.
Because their kitchen is so practical, Heidi started utilizing it for culinary demos as part of her company. They also had a pantry full of spices and products to feed an army. The kitchen island with a sink is another great thing about this house. It lets the couple talk to their guests while they cook.
According to Matt, the kitchen countertop is composed of Formica laminate sheets and many people mistake it for marble. Moving on, there is a neatly designed short corridor that leads to a room where the couple stores their spare food. “I put some shelves in since I had a lot of preserves, sauces, jams, and everything,” Heidi added.
The remainder of the home has a wonderful, one-of-a-kind bedroom and a clean, pleasant bathroom. Both rooms have a warm sense and excellent contemporary interior design with soft tones and trendy décor. Heidi added that the house cost about $220,000 to construct, but it was well worth it since they now had their ideal home, which is also their lifelong home.
