After ruling the United Kingdom for 70 years, Queen Elizabeth II passed away at Balmoral Castle in Scotland on September 8. Members of the royal family, including King Charles and Prince William, were reportedly on their way to Balmoral, according to the BBC, shortly after Buckingham Palace revealed she was under medical observation earlier in the day. The article also said that Prince Harry did not take Kate Middleton or Meghan Markle with him when he went to see his grandmother.
A source clarified that Prince Harry traveled alone, per a discussion on Twitter by British journalist Omid Scobie. Scobie claimed that Meghan remained in London and skipped the WellChild Awards charity event she and Harry were supposed to attend on September 8th. She hasn’t yet made any specifics about why she chose to remain in London public.
It didn’t take long for rumors to start to circulate about Meghan’s absence from Scotland. According to The Daily Beast, Nicholas Witchell, the BBC’s royal correspondent, suggested on air that Meghan “may not be too warmly welcomed.”

After that, a royal authority for Vanity Fair discussed Meghan’s absence in a similar manner. According to Katie Nicholl, who spoke to Entertainment Tonight on September 8, Meghan might not have been invited to go to Scotland with the royal family. She stated, “We understand Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, was not invited to join the family. Nicholl also mentioned that Meghan will go to Balmoral “another time,” although no information about it has been made public or verified.
Witchell’s opinion isn’t entirely absurd, given how far Prince Harry and Meghan are from the royal family. The pair made their decision to leave their positions as working royals public in February 2022. Later, they talked to Oprah about their scandalous interactions with royal family members and Buckingham Palace staff.

Kate reportedly remained in England with her kids, Prince William, Prince George, Princess Charlotte, and Prince Louis, according to Scobie. The kids began their first day of school the morning after the Queen passed away, according to Page Six.
On social media, both royal couples posted messages regarding the passing of Queen Elizabeth II. Prince Harry and Meghan Markle paid tribute on the Archewell website. “In loving memory of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II 1926-2022,” the authors penned.
A message and a black-and-white image of the late king were posted on Prince William and Kate’s official Instagram account. The Queen passed away quietly this afternoon at Balmoral. The caption stated, “The King and The Queen Consort will stay at Balmoral this evening and will depart for London tomorrow.
The public has not yet been given any official information about the Queen’s funeral.
