The power of music is truly amazing, especially when you consider how it can improve the lives of people suffering from dementia. Florence Vigod was 102 years old when this video was made. She struggled with short-term memory, but when she sat down at the piano, she was able to recall all of the songs she had been playing since she was 6 years old!
She is not on any medications, does not require assistance walking, and can still play the piano like a pro! Music appears to have a real synergy with people who are struggling with memory and other brain-related issues. The video below shows how a ballerina with Alzheimer’s remembers her entire daily routine after being given the music to which she danced.
Marta Cinta González Saldanha, the woman in the video, sadly died a year after the video was shot. Martha used to be a ballerina and had vivid memories of her dancing days that seemed to surface through the music. “It makes me emotional,” she says at the end of the video.
