Last Christmas Wish Fulfilled When Three Strangers Show Up At Dying Man’s Door With Cards

With only a few months to live, Gene Weittenhiller’s final Christmas wish was to receive as many cards as possible before passing away. So three strangers drove over two hours to bring a special blessing!

Gene Weittenhiller of Wisconsin decided to discontinue chemotherapy treatment as Christmas approached in 2019. It was lowering his quality of life while doing nothing to reduce the size of the tumor on his pancreas.

Gene’s wife, Linda Weittenhiller, says the entire journey has been “devastating. We are mostly enjoying being close to our children and grandchildren because we have recently retired.”

Doctors gave the grandfather only a few months to live, implying that this would be Gene’s final Christmas after 40 years of marriage.

“We are each other’s best friends, we travel together, we do everything together. That’s why I’ll miss him so much,” Linda explained.

So, with only a few weeks left in the season, Gene Weittenhiller and his family decided to make the most of it.

As a result, the Weittenhillers’ final Christmas wish was for the general public to send Gene as many Christmas cards as possible.

The response has been incredible. The Packers gave the dying man a signed football, as well as a signed photo and handwritten letter of support from Alex Trebek. But one of the most heartwarming responses to Gene’s last Christmas wish comes from three complete strangers!

Last Christmas Wish Inspires Random Acts Of Kindness
When three Milwaukee young men, Markeith Powell, Marqwain Givhan, and Earl Minley, heard Gene Weittenhiller’s story, it inspired them to do something extraordinary.

Despite the fact that Gene was a complete stranger, these kind young men went out of their way to fulfill his final Christmas wish. But sending the man a card didn’t seem like enough.

The two brothers and their cousin scraped together what little money they had to buy three Christmas cards and fill up their car’s gas tank. They drove more than two hours one way to deliver their cards in person!

“We were worried because we didn’t know if he’d show up or not,” Marqwain recalled. “But we cared about this man’s story so much that we were going to wait out there for an hour or two or three ’til they came back home. That’s how badly we wanted him to smile.”

Gene and his wife were overcome with emotion when they opened the door and heard the beautiful reason the three boys were there.

“He cried and cried,” Earl Minley remarked. “I got emotional, and we all did. Words cannot express how I feel. We couldn’t say anything. It was invaluable.”

Knowing that their kindness made Gene’s day made the trip worthwhile.

“Words cannot explain,” Earl continued. “The way he looked at us and hugged us. He gave us such an emotional hug. It was palpable. It was simply incredible.”

Before returning home, the three young men prayed with Gene and his wife. And they’re already making plans to see their new friend again!

I don’t know about you, but these three young men have restored my faith in the next generation. More acts of kindness like this are needed!
