A woman in Florida gives birth to identical twins with Down syndrome, which is extremely rare… And by doing so, she silences the critics…

Even though the likelihood of having twins increased by 72% between 1980 and 2018, they are still extremely rare. Twins account for approximately 33 of every 1,000 births in the United States.

And how common are identical twin sets to be born? There are approximately three or four sets of identical twins born for every 1,000 births. As a result, this is an exception rather than a rule.

Savannah Combs, 23, was overjoyed when she found out she was expecting twins. The fact that they both had Down syndrome enhanced their already exceptional status.

It was unavoidable that the news would be catastrophic. Savannah and her husband, Justin Ackerman, expected that because of their situation, some people would look down on them and their children.

However, it is precise because of this that they are so valuable in Savannah’s eyes. «It’s really rare what they have,» she said in an interview, «but they’ve been my little gems.»

Savannah, who is originally from Middleburg, Florida, and her daughters Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman documented their pregnancy on TikTok. As a result, they quickly grew a fan base.

Savannah stated in one of her videos that she was advised to terminate her pregnancy due to the babies’ poor survival chances. She made the decision to keep them and give them a fighting chance. «Every prenatal checkup that they were alive was a joy to me,» Savannah said.

Her husband was away at military training when she discovered they both had Down syndrome.

Savannah was 29 weeks pregnant when she was finally taken to the hospital to give birth to her babies. On May 12, 2021, identical twin daughters Kennadi Rue and Mckenli Ackerman were born.

Because the twins were born two months early, they had to spend several weeks in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) before they could go home.

Savannah claims that despite their extremely unusual condition, they are just like any other baby.

«They are complex human beings with emotions like everyone else. They have beating hearts. They have the ability to communicate. They are capable of accomplishing what you do. As I previously stated, they may be a step behind schedule, but they will make it. Despite their small stature, I’ve discovered that these children are both joyful and fierce.

Savannah updates her TikTok with cute videos and photos of her children as they continue to achieve their individual developmental milestones. “I’m going to let them know that they’re just like us, and as long as they set their minds to it, they’re going to get there”.
