Bruce Willis announced this year that he will retire from acting due to aphasia, a progressive brain disorder that impairs one’s ability to speak and communicate with others. The actor is now being cared for by his family, most notably his wife, Emma Heming Willis.
The last few months have been difficult for the Willis family since the 67-year-old diagnosis, but it has also brought them closer together. Bruce and Emma sold their Westchester, New York, home to relocate to California.
According to reports, Willis rarely leaves his house. Instead, he appears to be “trapped” inside his own head.

The news that Bruce Willis had been diagnosed with aphasia sent shockwaves around the world. The legendary and much-loved actor is only 67 years old, but he has already starred in his final film. He is best known for his roles in Die Hard, Pulp Fiction, and The Sixth Sense, among many others.
But first, let’s take a look back at Bruce’s long and successful career.
His father was in the US military and stationed in Idar-Oberstein, West Germany, when his son was born on March 19, 1955. Willis, the eldest of four children, returned to America with his family when he was two years old. Carney’s Point, New Jersey, became the family’s final destination.
Everyone agrees that Willis’ stuttering had a significant impact on his childhood. According to the 1997 book Bruce Willis: The Unauthorized Biography, the actor’s stuttering was so severe that he had difficulty communicating verbally.
He was fortunate to find assistance in the most unlikely of places.
“That statement took me three minutes to finish,” he said. “It was frightening for anyone who wished to speak up and be heard but couldn’t. I stopped stuttering when I played a different character in a play. “It was incredible,” he said.
In addition, at his school, a speech therapist guided him through a series of exercises that helped him overcome his stuttering and boost his self-confidence. Bruce tried his hardest as a senior in high school to fit in by becoming the school’s favorite funny guy. As a result, he eventually became involved in the school’s theater club.

Bruce went on to work as a security guard and then at a chemical factory after graduating from Penns Grove High School.
He eventually returned to school, enrolling at Montclair State University in New Jersey, where he discovered theatre. Bruce was eager to hone the acting skills needed to succeed in the industry. Fortunately, he had received excellent guidance from his drama professor, Jerry Rockwood, who recognized the talented actor’s potential right away.
He eventually skipped class in order to attend auditions in Manhattan. In January 1977, he had his first acting role in the play Heaven and Earth.
Bruce decided to drop out of school in his second year to pursue his acting career. He moved to New York to give himself the best chance.
Willis’ stage job at the time wasn’t enough to cover the rent. He contributed by serving drinks and modeling for companies such as Levis and Ray-Ban.
Bruce had his first uncredited film roles in the early 1980s. He was a young, obstinate, and talented actor who made his own audition decisions. That was a bold move that would pay off handsomely in the long run.

In the year 1985, he landed the role of David Addison in the ABC television series Moonlighting. There were nearly 3,000 people who auditioned for the role before he got it, and it ended up being his big break.
Bruce starred in 66 episodes of Moonlighting before the show was cancelled in 1989. He was no longer a young actor stumbling around looking for the next role; instead, he was a rising star. He was also in a relationship with fellow actress Demi Moore.
Willis and Moore met at the premiere of the film Stakeout in 1987. That night, they were both out with other people. In fact, the film’s star was Moore’s then-boyfriend Emilio Estevez.
Willis and Moore became friends at first. But, in the end, love triumphed. Their goals became clear as soon as they began spending time together. Willis was the one who started the conversation.
Moore stated in her autobiography, Inside Out, that she had never experienced such treatment before.
Bruce was a true gentleman in his own loud voice. When I told him it was time for me to go home, he offered to walk me to my car. He was as excited about it as a small child who didn’t want to miss the ice cream truck. I had schoolgirl flutters when he asked for my phone number.

Willis and Moore married in the same year. They have three daughters: Rumer (born in 1988), Scout (born in 1991), and Tallulah (born in 1993). (1994).
In 1988, Bruce’s Hollywood career advanced to the next level.
He portrayed New York cop John McClane in the film Die Hard, and the line “Yippee-ki-yay” has since become a movie famous quote.
In 1994, he would finally get the last laugh as boxer Butch Coolidge in Quentin Tarantino’s classic Pulp Fiction. After appearing in two more Die Hard films, an action-packed performance in Armageddon, and a memorable appearance in The Sixth Sense, Bruce had cemented his place among Hollywood’s best performers.
Willis’ personal life had changed dramatically at the time. He and Demi Moore split in 2000. Their divorce was widely publicized because they were regarded as one of Hollywood’s most influential couples at the time.
Willis met his second wife, Emma Heming, after seven years. The two were first seen in public together in 2008, when she accompanied him to the Sundance Film Festival.

Bruce and Emma married in the Turks and Caicos Islands in March 2009, after dating for just over a year. In 2012, they became parents for the first time, to a little girl named Mabel. Evelyn, the second child, arrived two years later.
Willis’ life, as well as the lives of his wife and children, changed dramatically in 2022. In March, it was revealed that he had been diagnosed with aphasia, a neurological disorder that limits his ability to speak.
Emma and their children are currently doing everything they can to care for Bruce. On the other hand, she’s not exactly having a good time right now. In a May interview with The Bump, the mother of two children admitted that the stress of caring for everyone in the house had a negative impact on her own health.

At the moment, there isn’t a lot of information available about Bruce Willis’ health. Recently, no public photos of the actor have been taken because he is now receiving all of the necessary care from his beloved wife and family at their Brentwood home.
Emma Heming Willis shared a video of her husband playing the blues on his harmonica while Derek Richard Thomas played guitar on Instagram. In the video, Willis is seated on the ground next to a stairwell while Thomas plays the guitar and sings in front of him.
“Their talent speaks for itself,” wrote Heming Willis in the caption. “I’m just going to leave this here.”
