Getting married in this day and age may be a lot of fun, especially when the bride and groom collaborate to stamp their own individual vision for the ceremony. People get married in strange places, dress outrageously, have amusing themes, and take unusual photographs. They may all present their visitors with an unforgettable experience. Some couples go to considerable lengths to create a ceremony that is very personal to them. Whether the theme or location, you never know what will happen!
That’s exactly what Mary Holland Tosse had in mind when she decided to forego the traditional walk down the aisle, which is usually accompanied by composer Felix Mendelssohn’s wedding march. Mary, from Norway, had no idea she was going to perform the well-known song, and she astonished all of the guests, including her soon-to-be husband, in the most stunning way imaginable.
As the doors open, Mary enters with her father. The visitors are unaware that she is carrying a microphone behind her back! When she walks down the church aisle, Mary astounds everyone by beautifully singing «You Lift Me Up» by the Irish-Norwegian duo Secret Garden, a song sung by many recording artists and a favorite of talent shows all over the world!
Everyone in the chapel is surprised, even her fiancé Ronny Eidsvik. There’s no doubt that the gesture left a few individuals with moist eyes and in dire need of handkerchiefs at the end of Mary’s performance. It’s a touching scene that wouldn’t be out of place in a movie.
The song is now used as a contemporary hymn in churches around the UK and Ireland, but it clearly means something personal to the couple here. Ronny wipes away a tear as his beautiful bride slowly approaches the altar, and then is even more flabbergasted when Mary hands the microphone to her father to sing a verse! Perhaps not quite with the talent Mary has, but it was a touching moment nonetheless!
The all-female choir joins in, as well as a wonderful accompaniment from brass instruments. We’re sure that this is one wedding ceremony that will live long in the memory of all the attendees, and a video that the happy couple will enjoy looking back on in the years to come. Perhaps Mary should audition for Norway’s Got Talent too!
