At age 66, a color-blind father begins to perceive color for the first time.

We give it little consideration on a daily basis. Every morning, we awaken to a riot of color, including a blue sky, verdant grass, brown coffee, and yellow eggs.

However, William Reed perceives a somewhat altered reality.
In his 66 years, the bodybuilder has only seen black and white.

Consider sunsets in black and white for a moment. The achromatic Rocky Mountains. Flowers, weddings, oceans, fields, hair, television, and even his attire are rendered in monochrome.

On September 12, 2017, all transitions occurred. For William’s birthday, his family pooled their resources to purchase him a pair of Enchroma spectacles.

The California-based optical specialist determines the “type” of color blindness a person has and then develops a revolutionary product that, with any luck, will enable that person to see vibrant colors.

Enchroma spectacles are not effective for everyone. In truth, the company warns that only 50% of its customers will experience results (but they have a no-hassle, 60-day, money-back guarantee).

After singing “Happy Birthday” and taking photographs of their 66-year-old favorite, William’s family presented him with the spectacles.

This large, muscular man is entirely overcome with emotion and speechless. His happiness literally emanates from his body and is highly contagious. Since it was shared on Facebook, approximately 155 million individuals have been captivated by William’s emotional response.

Enchroma is altering how people perceive color, and videos such as this one are uploaded and shared daily.

Each one reminds me of something Joel Houston of Hillsong said in an interview a few years ago.

The worship pastor of a megachurch breaks down the lyrics of the album’s title track, “Wonder,” while discussing the group’s Wonder album.

This first verse, according to oel, is simply about our eyes being opened to the light that is Jesus Christ. However, it was inspired by videos such as this one by William Reed.

“I saw a video of a guy who had been colorblind his entire life,” Joel explains. “For the first time, he saw color, and the way [he reacted]… He’d never seen anything like it before.”

“When we are saved, our eyes are opened to the kingdom, to what God is doing—a different perspective on the world,” he says.

And the reactions that result from it are uplifting. William exudes joy and excitement, almost like a child witnessing something extraordinary for the first time.
