Dick Van Dyke and Carol Burnett teamed together for a special appearance on ‘The Carol Burnett Show.’ Dick appeared on Carol’s show in Season 10, Episode 13 to act and sing.
Carol and Dick perform a song about the hues of love on a white stage while dressed in white. They are dressed well, and Dick walks out with a cart of paint cans.
Carol keeps singing “Color it blue,” while Dick paints her clothing blue. “These are the lips that kissed him when he wore a frown,” Carol continues. Make them brown.”
Dick pulls it off, and Carol is amused. This continues throughout the song, and Carol becomes increasingly irritated with each repetition. She is eventually smeared in paint from head to toe. Before the song ends, Dick and Carol break character and giggle.
Then there’s a sketch in which Dick and Carol play two introverts who can’t talk to each other face to face. They both chat from behind a pole and discuss how talking to yourself may become tedious.
Carol tries to look at him, scared but excited to see him. Dick tries to talk to her nicely, “Whenever I meet people, girls, I seem to bore them.” They both peek at each other and just stare, so Dick leaves and Carol calls out, “Wait!”
They decide to face each other, and they sit on a bench and talk for a while about their weird interests. Carol is falling asleep as he speaks. Then, they both realize that they are boring each other and walk away, saying it’s about bedtime.
