There is just one old woman left in the city, and she tells us about her life…

Elsie Eyler decided around 20 years ago not to leave the little Nebraska town of Monowi, which is located in a remote and desert location. The mayor, restaurant owner, and librarian live alone in this apartment.

Monovi had 150 residents when things were at their peak, which was in the 1930s of the previous century. However, the city was too far away from the trade routes. After discovering the futility of progress, people began to migrate to more developed areas. In the year 2000, Elsie was living alone in the city. She could go at any time, but she chooses not to.

Even when the city is desolate, the woman admits that she enjoys running it. In the heart of town, Elsie constructed a wonderful library with 5,000 books. She supports Monovi’s legal existence. In exchange, the state supplies Monovi with subsidies for power and other types of communication.

The woman even made a good livelihood a few years ago when one of the city’s leading fast-food eateries put a massive banner for advertising purposes. I open a bar every evening.

Elsie informs reporters that visitors come infrequently and not usually. The woman has no plans to make any adjustments. Elsie appreciates being able to rule the entire city by herself.
