A train conductor in New York demonstrated outstanding attentiveness and fast thinking in the face of difficult conditions in a rare occasion. The conductor stayed diligent and focused on the rails despite the early morning hour and the presence of a distracting smartphone. During his shift, he observed a 3-year-old youngster dangerously close to the electrified third rail, causing him to act quickly. Despite the train’s 70 mph speed, he quickly applied the brakes and warned all motorists approaching Tarrytown Station of the impending danger.

When the train came to a halt, surveillance footage showed Marcus Higgins, the assistant conductor, running along the tracks to save the youngster. According to reports, the boy is autistic and nonverbal, and he became separated from his mother when he fell over a barrier and ended himself near the train tracks.
The conductor quickly alerted others to the issue, saying, “Emergency, emergency, emergency!” I need you to kill the rail because there is a toddler on the track.” Unfortunately, the child’s condition prevented him from understanding Higgins’ warnings about the electrified line and the possible threat it posed. As a result, Higgins’ colleague, who stayed on the train, contacted the station repeatedly to stop power to the rail.

Higgins successfully carried the boy into the train, where he was subsequently reunited with his mother and sibling, thanks to the rapid intervention of the station authorities. This incident exemplifies the conductor’s unwavering commitment to passenger safety and his brave act of rescuing a little child in a perilous circumstance.
