Check out this amazing gesture of kindness in which a restaurant wrote “happy birthday” in braille for a blind customer.
Natalie Te Paa, a blind singer-songwriter, celebrated her birthday in London with her friend Claire Sara. The two decided to go out to lunch at Luciano together. What happened after their meal surprised both of them. Natalie was given a dessert with the words “Happy birthday” written in chocolate Braille by the restaurant employees!
“There is no way in the world!” No, it does not! Natalie yelled as she felt the raised chocolate patches with her palms. Oh my goodness! Are you sure? That’s insane. It means a lot to me.
When Natalie celebrated her birthday in a restaurant, the servers sang to her, as they do for most people. However, this was the first time a restaurant had made such special adjustments for her disability. Employees went above and above to make Natalie feel special on her birthday, even researching how to write the message in Braille and ensuring that the chocolate was suitably cooled to prevent melting when Natalie touched it.
Natalie’s friend Claire captured the touching occasion on camera and put it online. The touching scene quickly went viral, with over 4.3 million likes and over 16 million views on YouTube.
The fact that people have responded so warmly to it shows how desperately the world needs compassion, a message of hope, and examples of people going above and beyond for one another right now, Natalie said.
The birthday girl goes on to express her hope that the film may spark a larger conversation about inclusivity.
“Being blind is difficult. You encounter things that are challenging, rough, and difficult rather frequently, as well as discrimination. The fact that they did that for us, then, really sparked a dialogue about awareness, she added. “I’ve never thought of this notion,” restaurant owners and chefs have said in their responses.
Natalie said, “We need to make it more inclusive for people with all disabilities.” being able to acquire the skills necessary to approach another person at their level. I’ll be happy if even one restaurant is motivated to improve their inclusiveness.
What a wonderful moment, and what a unique approach to incorporate and make this birthday girl feel special! Check it out below!
