The 68-year-old actor was reportedly surprised when his 49-year-old wife of 18 years, Christine Baumgartner, filed for divorce. Costner’s absence was said to be ‘difficult’ for Baumgartner, who wanted the actor to spend more time at home with his family in Santa Barbara.

‘Kevin isn’t around much during the shoot. ‘His absence has been quite difficult for her,’ a source said. According to another source, although Costner was aware that his wife was unhappy with their marriage, her filing for divorce caught him off guard.

The success of his television series Yellowstone has recently rejuvenated Costner’s career. One of the actor’s upcoming directing ventures is Horizon, a Western epic. His wife was allegedly concerned about his availability owing to his current workload and next venture.

‘Christine does not want him to become involved with another project. Since last year, he has been preoccupied with filming Horizon. ‘She wasn’t pleased about it,’ according to a source.

‘At times, his job has taken priority over his private life,’ according to another insider.

He ‘hasn’t been home too much for quite some time owing to filming, the popularity of Yellowstone, and the time required for his other ventures,’ according to the insider. He’s in high demand.’

‘All of this success and enthusiasm about the new endeavor probably distracted him from his family more than he knew. Because it didn’t seem that this would change and was going to worsen, it created strain at home,’ the person claimed.

The couple has been married since 2004. Christine filed for divorce, citing ‘irreconcilable differences as the grounds. The couple has three children: Cayden, Hayes, and Grace. All of their children are minors.

Kevin Costner was not married for the first time. The actor was married to Cindy Silva from 1978 to 1994. His and Silva’s children are Annie, Lily, and Joe. They’re all in their thirties. Liam Coster, the actor’s son with Bridget Rooney, is the result of a brief affair after his first divorce.

According to sources, the actor has been in Utah filming Horizon, his first directorial effort in nearly 20 years since his 2003 feature Open Range.

‘It is with considerable regret that circumstances beyond his control have forced Mr. Costner to engage in a dissolution of marriage action,’ the court adds. A prepared statement was made by Kevin Costner’s publicist.

Baumgartner, according to reports, has not sought spousal support. Laura Wasser has submitted Costner’s rebuttal. ‘Spousal support should be paid to the petitioner in accordance with the provisions of the parties’ premarital agreement,’ Wasser wrote, noting that both couples had a pre-nuptial agreement.

Their case will be heard in July.

This is not Costner’s first marriage. He was married to Cindy Silva from 1978 till 1994. They met when both students at California State University, Fullerton.
