A man opposed a doctor’s recommendation to place his disabled wife in a nursing home… Read on to find out what he did instead…

Some couples inspire you to believe that love and wonderful things can still exist. This is the story of a married couple that meant what they said. When his wife became ill, he stayed by her side exactly as he did when she was well.

In 1958, Andy Fierlit attended a church dance in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. The adolescent fell in love with Donna at first sight. When he asked Donna for a bit of gum, the rest of their life together began.

They married in 1966. They had previously been great buddies since high school. They had been happily married for many years and had four children, making them a family of six. They now have 12 grandchildren.

Donna suffered a brain aneurysm at the age of 45. She developed a migraine at a Christmas party and opted to sleep it off. The next day, she suffered a massive aneurysm, which altered the trajectory of her life. Her aneurysm left her partially paralyzed, and doctors advised Andy to place her in a nursing facility since caring for her would be too difficult for him and his family.

When Andy heard what the doctor stated, all he could think about was his wedding vows. He didn’t want to confine his adored wife to a nursing home.

Donna, now 76, has been in a wheelchair for 30 years. Despite being confined to a wheelchair, she has seen more of the globe in that period than most people do in their whole lives.

Everything happened because of her husband Andy, who still loves her.

“Sure, it’s hard,” Andy admits, “but I’ve loved Donna since the first day I met her, and I can’t imagine doing anything else.” The couple has always wanted to travel the world together and have already visited all seven continents.

“Donna isn’t mobile, and she has short-term memory problems, but she can tell you her father’s license plate from 1955, and she’s a lot of fun to travel with,” Andy says of his wife. We adore one other and have always said, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.”

According to posts on the Facebook page of their daughter, Allison Fierlit Peters, Andy Fierlit died in 2019 and Donna Fierlit died the following year, in 2020.

They were a true source of inspiration and a reminder that marital vows should be maintained.

Tell your friends and relatives about this lovely story of enduring love.
