When a generous 8-year-old learned that his favorite waiter was walking to work after his car broke down, he launched a $5,000 GoFundMe campaign, which resulted in more than $120,000 raised for the struggling young father of two.

Kayzen Hunter and his family enjoy breakfast at their neighborhood waffle shop in Little Rock, Arkansas, on a regular basis, and every week, little Kayzen requests a seat in his favorite waiter’s section: Devonte’s.

“Every time he comes in, I always give him a high five,” Devonte explained.

Over the years, Kayzen and his family have gotten to know Devonte, and describe him and his positive attitude as “a light in the world.” Devonte has also memorized what Kayzen loves to eat; scrambled eggs with cheese, no toast, hash browns covered with cheese, and an Arnold Palmer.

“Devonte always treats everyone with kindness, and he always knows exactly what I want: hash browns with cheese and eggs with cheese,” Kayzen said.

“He’s a fantastic kid.” “Every time he comes in, he tells me a joke, like, ‘Hey, Devonte, I got a joke for you,’ and the next thing you know, we’re laughing,” Devonte said. “I love working at Waffle House because I get to meet new people every day and make their day.” I arrive with a cheerful disposition. I handle everyone with optimism. “I enjoy seeing everyone smile.”
Devonte’s car broke down one week, and because he couldn’t afford to replace it, he began walking and catching rides to the Waffle House. Kayzen and his family discovered his automobile on one of their frequent visits, and after a bit of a deeper conversation, they learned about his challenging housing circumstances. Devonte had previously lived in a shabby apartment with his wife and two girls, but mold had made his daughters sick, so he moved them all into a motel and had been spending $60 per day for the past 8 months.

“All of my advice and everything I get goes directly to my children.” “I pay $60 per day for the room,” Devonte explained.

After learning about his situation, Kayzen came home one day after school and told his mom that he wanted to start a GoFundMe to help Devonte.

“He came home and told me that, ‘Hey, Mom, Devonte walks or gets a ride to work and I’m gonna start a GoFundMe,’” Kayzen’s mom, Vittoria Hunter, said. “I was like, ‘Well, okay, that’s really sweet… It’s a great idea.”

So Kayzen’s mom helped him set up a GoFundMe, and this is what he wrote:

“Hello, my name is Kayzen, and I am eight years old.” I’d like to raise donations for Devonte, a buddy I met and got to know while enjoying breakfast at Waffle House. Devonte is a hardworking father with two daughters and a wife. He is a hard worker who must walk or take public transportation to work every day. He was seeking for a good deal on a car, and his family was unfortunate enough to land up in an apartment with black mold. He had to get his children out, which cost him a lot of money.

We are currently assisting him in obtaining a clean rental property and would like to assist him even further by raising monies so that he may drive his family and get to and from work. Devonte is one of the happiest and most upbeat persons you’ve ever met!! He constantly greets us with a broad smile. I hope your heart is as big as mine and that you will join me in spreading kindness throughout the world. “Any amount counts!!”

Kayzen’s goal was to raise $5,000 to assist Devonte in purchasing a new car, since Devonte had stated that he was looking for one but that his plans had been put on hold owing to his living condition. While donations were slow at first, word spread about what little Kayzen was doing for his favorite waiter, and generous hearts from all around the world showed up online to support him. Kayzen raised a total of $120,815 to help Devonte and his two daughters live a better life.

Devonte was taken aback when he discovered what his little 8-year-old friend had done for him.

“I burst out crying… “I’d been struggling quietly and didn’t want to ask for anything,” Devonte explained.
Devonte and his family have since moved into a good and stable apartment, and he is seeking to buy a family sedan or minivan. He intends to save the remainder of the earnings for his daughters.

“I’m going to save the rest because I want to put my daughters in a good school and a good environment,” Devonte explained. “Everything I get goes primarily to my daughters to ensure they have a wonderful life.” Make certain that we will no longer have to strive.”
