Jimmy Amisial, a Texas State University student, had no idea how much his life would alter after returning to Haiti in 2017.
On his way to a New Year’s Eve party, the then-22-year-old came upon a group of individuals gathered around a heap of garbage.

Amisial reported, “I noticed a baby when I came to the area where the individuals were creating noise.”
He added, “It was in a pile of rubbish sobbing, and there wasn’t a single anyone who wanted to do something about it,” adding that this was probably due to a local superstition that the infant might be cursed or demonic. Amisial didn’t hesitate, though.
“He was nude. He’d been there for a couple of hours, and fire ants were swarming all over him. He stopped crying as soon as I lifted him up”, he informed the outlet.

He then returned the three-month-old infant to his mother, who tried to calm him and cure the insect bites he had acquired. When the police arrived the next day, he was asked whether he wanted to be the boy’s legal guardian because no one had come forward to claim him.
“I took a leap of faith by saying yes, even though I had no idea how I was going to take care of him,” he added.
The boy, whom he called Emilio Angel Jeremiah, remained in the care of his mother even though Amisial was compelled to return to the United States because of the student visa he was on. Amisial was forced to discontinue his studies after that in order to work as a part-time landscaper and delivery assistant to help support the boy’s upbringing.

Amisial began the legal adoption process for Emilio in 2019, but it has been lengthy and costly. Adoption might take up to five years and cost up to $31,000, according to estimates. Despite this, Amisial, who characterizes Emilio as a “joyful” child, continues to communicate with him via frequent video talks.
He enjoys singing, playing the guitar, and watching ‘Tom and Jerry. He is a really happy child who adores sports. “He plays basketball and soccer,” he explained.

“My mother and I felt an instant connection with him.” He refers to me as “my father.” Despite being his temporary guardian, I still consider myself his father.
Because of their connection, Amisial established a GoFundMe campaign to raise the funds needed to complete the adoption process, which has already raised more than $150,000. Amisial has also planned how he will spend any additional cash.
“We aim to fully adopt Emilio with the help of your donations. Pay for Emilio’s education, provide aid to deserving families, and children in the neighborhood, and perhaps even cover my educational expenses and student loan burden. With you, anything is conceivable, Amisial stated in a Facebook post.

Despite not knowing what the future holds for Amisial, he remains optimistic.
“One thing I do know is that you can never go wrong when you choose love.” “It was those supernatural moments and interventions to exhibit love, clarity, and show the world that we can do better,” he added on the GoFundMe website.
He stated that Emilio’s betterment is his only hope for him:
“I’d like for him to grin. Despite the fact that he was abandoned, I want him to realize he is not alone because I want to teach him how to love.”
