Many retirees find hobbies or even part-time occupations to keep them occupied after their careers have ended.

However, Paul Gethius picked an unusual manner to spend his free time.

Over the last eight years, the 76-year-old former environmental toxicologist has assisted low-income college students in New York in getting to school.

He has flown more than 64,000 miles in eight years, transporting students to universities and colleges in New York and back home.

He made certain that they could attend the educational institution and then return home for the holidays.

Paul’s visits to colleges, where he greets happy students with backpacks full of holiday gifts, have become routine.

Despite the fact that the youngsters he takes with him are not his relatives.

During the holiday season, Paul frequently drives 1,000 miles or more in his Chevrolet Tahoe.

After all, it is critical that children spend the holidays with their families and then return to school.

It does more than just offer transportation.

The pensioner also prints out lists of restaurants along the routes he travels so that students can choose where they would like to eat.

When they stop, he always pays. “I’m not asking, I’m just telling them I’ll pay for it myself,” Paul says.

Paul is from Syracuse.

Although he avoids traffic in New York, he gets to the University of Buffalo and the Rochester Institute of Technology, which is, for a second, a five-hour round trip.

“I just love driving and I love these kids.

It’s such a blessing and privilege to be a part of these kids’ lives, even for a few hours, to get to know them and hear their stories,” says Paul.
