Siblings have a bond unlike any other.
Lisi Lopez was pleased to learn she was expecting her second child. Everything was OK until her 12-week scan discovered an issue.
Lisi assumed the ultrasound was merely a standard checkup, but when they checked for genetic issues, they discovered the baby had Down syndrome. She had to wait two weeks before receiving a definitive diagnosis. She was always worried about the “what ifs” at the moment.
“I had so many concerns the night after the diagnosis,” wrote the mother. “My main concern was whether I would be able to be the mother my two children deserved.” As a result of this diagnosis, Leo’s older sister would have to mature faster than normal children. “Whether I would be able to push Leo hard enough to bring him to his full potential.”
Her husband often reminded her that people with Down syndrome can have lovely, full lives, which helped Lisi embrace their new reality. She fell in love with Leo’s adorable face the instant he was born and knew she was the best mother for him!
The young boy has grown into a cheerful, healthy, and gregarious toddler. His big extended family adores him and lavishes him with love and care, and he consistently exceeds expectations.
“Leo is a ham, and he knows it,” Lisi pointed out. “It amazes me how he acts just like any other typical 3-year-old, causing mayhem wherever he goes, yet he knows the right times to stop his mischief and give those around him his sweet loving hugs.”
The Lopez family welcomed a third boy into their lives around a year ago. Leo performed admirably as the best big brother ever!

Lisi frequently posts photos and videos of her boys on her blog and Instagram. She posted a brief video of Leo feeding his little brother a bottle one day, and it’s just too cute for words.
Leo delicately wipes away the milk from his brother’s chin with a soft cloth while holding him, making sure the baby is fine. In every frame, you can feel his sincere love for his family.
After the video went viral, the mom’s reaction said it was all about inclusiveness and acceptance: “What I love most is the caption.” It just states ‘boy’ and ‘baby brother.'”
We love that, too! Leo is so much more than a diagnosis! Thank you, Lopez family, for sharing your beautiful story and children with the world.
