Simon Cowell questions Lucie Jones’ ability to perform Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You” during her X Factor audition. But oh, was he wrong!

Lucie Jones, 18, is from a small Welsh village with a population of a few hundred people.

“I really want to get out, and I really want to get out there on the big stage,” Lucie says about her city.

“For someone like Lucie, who has her sights set on the bright lights, this could be the way for her to move away and realize her dream,” Lucie’s mother says in a pre-X Factor interview.

When Lucie begins to perform ‘I Will Always Love You,’ she appears anxious on stage. But as she gets confidence her voice becomes more powerful. Simon begins to smile as he watches her flourish on stage.

Following her audition, the X Factor judges offer Lucie Jones words of encouragement.

“I actually loved your vulnerability in your performance because it makes me think you don’t realize how amazing you are,” adds Judge Sheryl. “I think you’re one to watch, Lucie,” she says. I think you have a lot of promise. “I believe you have the ability to sing almost anything.”

“Some people were born to sing,” says X Factor judge Loui. “You were made to sing.” You check every box, and I predict that things will change for you beginning today.”

“Lucie, this is why we came to Wales,” Simon replies, smiling. “One of the world’s most difficult songs to sing.” You didn’t try to sound like Whitney Houston; you sang it in your own unique style. Lucie, you’re incredibly appealing. You have a lot of talent. “I really like you,” he declares.
