Even the most mundane and normal tasks are novel and, at times, frightening to infants.
A recent viral video shows a small youngster in a terrible circumstance, and the reaction of everyone around him is so calming that it’s no wonder that the boy recovers fast. It all started while the child was getting his hair trimmed in an Italian barbershop.
As demonstrated by his expression, this youngster is certainly distressed about having his hair cut! He moans and whines, but within seconds, he hears a sound from across the room. Three more barbers can be seen standing near their chairs, singing their hearts out in an attempt to distract the terrified child as the camera pans over. Their clients are also smiling at the child, who appears to be delighted by the barbers’ impromptu performance.
The tune they are singing is the Italian translation “I Due Liocorni,” which translates as “The Unicorn Song.” It is based on Shel Silverstein’s children’s poem “The Unicorn,” which tells the story of how the unicorns missed Noah’s Ark’s sailing right before the great flood.
“There were green alligators and long-necked geese, some Humpty-backed camels and chimps, some cats and rats and elephants, but the most beautiful of all was the Unicorn.”
Whatever the content of the song was, the objective was clear: to redirect this small boy’s attention away from what was going on over his head. And it was a success!
As he watched the big guys sing the ridiculous tune, the young boy’s tears quickly dried up. His barber cannot help but smile as he cuts the child’s hair in relative calm. Now that the video has gone viral, we can all witness these fun-loving men go above and above to help a fearful little child.
