Johnny Cash was an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and actor who rose from humble origins to become one of the greatest musical artists of all time. Johnny’s song and unique all-black stage attire earned him the moniker “The Man in Black.” “I Walk the Line,” “Ring of Fire,” and “Folsom Prison Blues” are among the artist’s best-known hits. As a result of his success since his debut in the early 1950s, the late musician has sold over 90 million recordings worldwide.

Johnny was diagnosed with diabetes in his 60s, after enjoying a fantastic life filled with career and personal accomplishments. He died of the disease and its complications on September 12, 2003, at the age of 71.

However, Johnny continued to release music and perform until his death. He released “American III: Solitary Man” in 2000, followed by “American IV: The Man Comes Around” in 2002. Despite his illness and worsening health, Johnny received recognition for his efforts and even won a Grammy for the “Hurt” music video. Johnny Cash’s final song was a duet with his daughter Rosanne Cash, which was published in March 2003 on her album “Rules of Travel.” Johnny died a year and a half later.

Through his family, especially his grandson Thomas Gabriel, Johnny’s legacy has persisted. Gabriel’s singing voice is exactly like that of his late grandfather, even if he doesn’t resemble the well-known country musician in terms of appearance.

Many people who are unfamiliar with the couple’s early years together may be surprised to learn that both Johnny and June Carter were married to other people when they met. Johnny and his wife, Vivian Liberto Cash, had four kids at the time: Roseanne, Kathy, Cindy, and Tara.

Furthermore, Carter may be unaware that she had a successful singing career prior to meeting Johnny. Carter was included in the Carter Sisters and Mother Maybelle’s group. After launching her solo career, she frequently shared the stage with Elvis Presley due to their friendship.

Presley insisted on Carter meeting with Johnny. Carter had been watching Presley play Johnny Cash’s music. According to Country Living, Carter and Johnny met after their 1956 performance at Nashville’s legendary Grand Ole Opry.

While Johnny and Carter, also known as Johnny and June, achieved international renown, Johnny’s family is the result of his two marriages. In reality, his daughter Kathy, whom he had with Vivian, bore his eldest grandson Gabriel, who later became a well-known actor.

In a 2018 video shot at a personal gathering, Gabriel sung the well-known tune Johnny made famous, “Folsom Prison Blues.”

“Folsom Prison Blues” was first performed by a band. Then a man in a black cap approached the microphone. His tattoos on both arms were readily apparent when he gripped the microphone. A lone man was about to sing a country song. He appeared to be enjoying a typical karaoke session in a neighboring tavern.

A live band, on the other hand, is unusual at such an event.

As he opened his mouth to sing, Gabriel did not betray the surprise that awaited him. He kept his entire performance pretty subdued. He rushed to the front of the stage with no fanfare.

When Gabriel began to sing, it appeared as if a Johnny tape had been played. The real deal, though, is this young man. Johnny is his grandfather’s name.

Johnny recognized Gabriel’s musical and vocal abilities when he was 21 years old, but recommended him to choose a different career path.

“He said the writing’s fantastic, your voice is good, but you need to improve on it,” Gabriel stated in an interview with Forbes in 2018. I want you to postpone it and develop a backup plan in the meantime.

Gabriel believes that his grandfather prevented him from pursuing a musical career out of fear that his grandchild would succumb to addiction like he had in the past.

Gabriel initially chose to pursue a career in law enforcement rather than music, but he eventually changed his mind. He would struggle with addiction for years and have multiple run-ins with the law, including a ten-year stint in prison.

But everything changed for the better in 2015, when he received a call from retired businessman Brian Oxley. Oxley was so captivated by Johnny that he bought his old farm in Bon Aqua, Tennessee, and turned it into a tourist attraction. He began looking into Johnny’s family after discovering that his grandson Gabriel was having problems. During their extended talk, Gabriel stated that his only purpose in life was to become a musician.

“I simply stated that I wished to return to music.” “I spent time in jail and wrote all of these songs, but neither I nor they are doing anything,” Gabriel reflected. “I’d like to resume making music.”

Only on the condition that Gabriel undergoes rehab and rebuilds his life would Oxley agree to aid him. One year later, Oxley approached Gabriel again and assisted him in realizing his dreams by assisting him in recording his first album.

Gabriel now performs both original music and tributes to his late granddad.

He told the Irish Mirror that getting to sing them was an honor. “I consider them to be passed down, thus it is continuing a tradition. They certainly don’t strike me as cover songs.
