A mother uses a crochet hook to create a touching gift for her friend’s toddler who has cancer.

When Lily was diagnosed with cancer at the age of two, her parents were understandably distraught. Holly Christensen, a family friend, was instantly thinking of ways she could help when she heard about Lily’s condition.

As a former oncology nurse, Holly, a 31-year-old mother of three, was aware of the devastation that chemotherapy-related hair loss can cause for a patient. So, holding a crochet hook in her hand, she started to make Lily a sweet and whimsy wig in the style of a Disney princess.

“I knew she would be going through a difficult time, and that no one would be able to take her suffering away. I figured that the yarn wig could help bring a little magic and fun to a difficult time in her life,” said Holly.

The two-year-old’s response to the beautiful Rapunzel wig Holly made was inspiring!

Holly was so inspired that she decided not to stop there. She produced numerous wigs for Lily before moving on to create even more miraculous creations for other sick youngsters.

The Magic Yarn Project was established and is supported by donations with the goals of making lovely and plush yarn wigs for young girls with cancer and promoting volunteerism.

The wigs are being delivered to children in need all across the world for free.

Holly and her crocheting volunteers even started holding workshops to teach parents and their communities how to create the wigs themselves.

The Magic Yarn Project is keeping its promise to bring light and magic to the children it aids, with more than a hundred princess-themed wigs warming the heads and hearts of tiny cancer fighters.
