As Hurricane Irma blasted through the British Virgin Islands, Kate Jackson and her fiancé Alex Ashman sat in the toilet with their young triplets. The couple braced themselves for the worst and began saying their final goodbyes. The family, on the other hand, was spared when the house was demolished. The 6-month-old triplets were among the storm’s youngest survivors, having survived Hurricane Irma!

Kate Jackson (33) and Alex Ashman (31) live in Tortola, the largest of the British Virgin Islands, and sought shelter in Kate’s mother’s home while Hurricane Irma wreaked havoc on the Caribbean. The British parents took their three children, Beatrice, Charlotte, and Isabella, into the toilet while the storm raged outside. CJ, Kate’s sister, was present, as were married couple Nick and Jayne, who are family friends. Everyone crammed into the shower, trying to be safe as their house blew apart around them.
“First there was the balcony, then there was the kitchen,” Nick recalled. “We ended up in the sole remaining room, a newly built bathroom.” The storm ripped the roof off when each mother was holding one of the children and the two men were holding a headboard over the group. The gang began to wonder if they would survive. “At one point, we were saying our goodbyes,” Nick told me.
As the bathroom walls began to fall apart, Nick began to hunt for a way out. “I walked over to the door to check if there was a way out to a solid concrete generator room,” he went on to say. “As I pulled the handle, the door flew out in front of me, revealing that there was no longer a home.” It was a slower moment. It seemed as if I were looking at God.” The team gained access to the generator room by climbing via a window. The storm completely demolished the house.

But God protected the family. Everyone survived Hurricane Irma, even the 6-month-old triplets. In fact, these adorable little girls are among the youngest survivors! Friends are gathering donations to assist Kate and Alex replace all of their earthly things. And the trauma will take a long time to recover from.
But they got through what actually important. Please keep all those affected by Hurricane Irma in your prayers. There is still a long road ahead, and we hope that our Heavenly Father will provide peace and comfort to all those affected by the disaster.
