Following Baby’s ‘Hi’ A generous man spends 45 minutes drawing on his iPad and watching cartoons with her.

When 16-month-old Carter Jean was being her usual curious self and said ‘hey’ to a businessman at the airport, he spent over an hour saying hello, smiling with her, and kindly letting her sketch on his iPad.

Carter Jean and her father, Kevin Armentrout, were at the airport waiting to board a trip when she observed Joseph Wright sitting across from her and decided to say hello.

“Last night, while waiting to board our plane, Carter Jean was being her usual inquisitive self wanting to meet and say “hi” to everyone she could, until she walked up on this man,” Kevin shared.
Joseph returned Carter Jean’s greeting, and after a few minutes of really cute conversation, he asked her if she wanted to sit with him. They had a fantastic time together for about an hour.

“He extended his hand and asked if she wanted to sit with him. He took out his tablet and demonstrated how to sketch on it, they watched cartoons together, and she offered him refreshments. This was not a quick interaction; it lasted 45 minutes.”

“There were a few moments she screamed and tried to get into his work calendar, but he couldn’t care less.”
“I couldn’t help but think, of different genders, different skin colors, different generations, and the best of friends” as I watched them. This is the life I see for her.”

Kevin was extremely moved by the generosity exhibited by a black guy to his white daughter during a time when racism and division were the talk of the country.

“In a society that is often told how deeply divided it is by ideologies, I want her life to be filled with moments like these… HUMAN, not liberal or conservative, republican or democrat, socialist or capitalist.”
“If this happens to find you, Joseph from Samsung in Oklahoma, thank you for showing my daughter what kindness and compassion look like.” Keep shining your light in the world.”

A number of Joseph’s friends and coworkers noticed Kevin’s article and commented that this is exactly the kind of person Joseph is.

“I initially met [Joseph] in 1976 at school… This was exactly how he was back then and throughout our school years… “You were a beautiful human being then and now,” one buddy remarked.
“He’s been that way since I’ve known him… This comes as no surprise to me because he is actually a beautiful man!” shared another.

Hundreds of thousands of people have expressed gratitude for Joseph’s generosity online.

“And once again, it takes a child to show the rest of us how its (life) done right…..” stated Barbara L. in her letter.

“I was traveling cross-country with my 10-day-old daughter over 40 years ago.” She was excellent, although carrying a child for so long can be exhausting. About 2 hours into the flight a gentleman came up to me and said “Let me hold her for a bit so that you can relax and have something to eat” I was skeptical, but he continued, “I am the father of eight children and the grandfather of two; I believe you need a break.” “I will never forget that gentleman’s kindness!” Jo R. agreed.

“Congratulations to this outstanding individual. We are all the same under our skin. But it’s unfortunate that so many people fail to recognize this. It is not the skin tone that is good or terrible, but the individual within!!!!” Regina W. wrote.

“I took a screaming child from his Japanese mother on an 8-hour international flight.” Many passengers were furious, and she was exhausted from caring for three children. He dozed out in my arms and slept for 5 hours. I carried him off the plane and gave him back to her at customs. She was in tears with gratitude. Very humbling time for me and I was honored that she let me help,” wrote Roy B.

“This is the world we live in, we’re just being told it’s not. “This is how most of us want it,” Julie S. wrote.
