The two main characters are introduced early in the film: an elderly lady and a little girl. The elder lady is the small girl’s grandmother, also referred to as “bisnonna.” They’re having a lively debate, but if you just know English, you won’t understand anything. This conversation includes a lot of hand movements, which is rather usual among Sicilians…

The elderly lady starts by clapping her hands and then moves her hands up and down. Soon after, the youngster imitates her, applauding and uttering gibberish. Grandmother makes a few other gestures, including holding her hands out, shaking them back and forth in a “prayer” gesture, and motioning towards her head. The child appeared to be paying attention.
While she does not completely mimic every move, she does mimic the majority of them, which is what makes this film so sweet. The back-and-forth between these two is quite amusing. We were all eager to hear what Granny had to say. We looked to the comments section to see if anyone had any suggestions. As it turns out, they did!

This whole discussion was apparently about “Grandpa not listening.” True, the tiny kid is probably unaware of what is going on. Still, knowing the chat is about Grandpa makes the whole video much more entertaining to watch!
