Hollywood mourns Matthew Perry’s death: ‘The world will miss you’

Matthew Perry’s condolences flooded in Saturday after his death at home in Los Angeles’ Pacific Palisades neighborhood. He was 54.

Perry, who played Chandler Bing on the hit sitcom “Friends” when he was only 24 years old, died after an apparent drowning in a hot tub, according to law enforcement sources. There were no narcotics recovered at the location, and no foul play is suspected.

The co-creators of “Friends,” Marta Kauffman and David Crane, as well as executive producer Kevin Bright, issued a statement to Fox News Digital, stating, “We are shocked and deeply, deeply saddened by our beloved friend Matthew’s passing.” It still appears to be impossible. All we can say is that we consider ourselves fortunate to have had him in our lives.”

“He was a phenomenal talent.” It’s a cliche to say that an actor makes a part of their own, but there are no truer words in Matthew’s case. There was no one else for us to watch since the day we first heard him play Chandler Bing. We shall always remember the joy, light, and blazing knowledge he brought to every minute of his life, not just his profession. He was always the most amusing person in the room. He was also the sweetest, with a caring and altruistic heart. We express our heartfelt condolences to his family and friends. This is The One In Which Our Hearts Are Broken.

“We are heartbroken by the tragic loss of our beloved son and brother,” the celebrity’s family said in a statement to People. “As an actor and a friend, Matthew brought so much joy to the world.” You all meant so lot to him, and we are grateful for the outpouring of love.”

Gwyneth Paltrow, who Perry claimed in his memoir to have kissed once in the early 1990s, posted a photo of the actor on Instagram. “I met Matthew Perry in 1993 at the Williamstown Theater Festival in Massachusetts,” she captioned the image. We both spent the most of the summer performing in plays. He was hilarious, sweet, and a lot of fun to be around. We drove out to swim in creeks, drank at a college bar, and kissed in a field of long grass. It had been a fantastic summer.”

“He had shot the Friends pilot, but it had not yet aired.” He was worried, waiting for his big break to come soon. It was. We remained friends for a while before drifting apart, but I was always glad to see him when I did. I’m quite sad today, as are many of us. I hope Matthew is finally at peace. I truly believe it.”

Valerie Bertinelli, another celebrity with whom Perry had a brief romantic relationship, uploaded a snapshot of him on her Instagram story. She said, “Rest in peace, sweet man.”

Shannen Doherty, who acted alongside Perry when he appeared on “Beverly Hills 90210,” shared an old photo of him on Instagram, writing in part, “We were a gang way back… We played a game in which Matt had to say outrageous things to girls at the bar. We just had a lot of fun and were always there for each other. We were constantly found in a booth together, speaking in our own made-up language. And, certainly, Matt had that sense of humor.”

“Matt and I had a date and it was on Valentine’s Day. He wanted to make a reservation at a restaurant in Malibu but couldn’t, so my father did it for him. We went, and he spent the entire of the night bragging about my father’s Irish persuasion. Our friendship lasted a very long period. A lifetime, in fact. I know many are hurting, especially our little gang. He will be missed by many and definitely by us. Yes. I could be more lyrical or explain things better, but shock and sadness are the dominant emotions right now.”
