A woman driving through Southeast Missouri noticed a strange sight in the middle of the road: what seemed to be a wig. She slowed down, intrigued and slightly concerned, and realized it wasn’t a wig after all. It was a poor dog lying motionless and in terrible shape. Luckily, the woman’s quick thinking saved the day, as she picked up the dog and sought help.
The dog’s appearance was so horrifying that it bore no resemblance to a canine at all. Rochelle Steffen, the Founder of Mac’s Mission, explained that the woman initially mistook the dog for a wig due to her pitiful condition. The woman decided to act after honking at the dog and receiving no response. She took the dog with her in quest of help after realizing the dog’s predicament.
The woman got in touch with Mac’s Mission, an animal rescue organization, who promptly stepped up to help. The dog, later named Pear, was handed over to them. When Steffen saw Pear for the first time, she was taken aback by her appalling state. Pear was an enormous matted ball of fur, barely able to walk or see, and was even missing one eye. Despite her suffering, Pear displayed surprising calmness, which is uncommon in such rescue situations.
Pear’s relief was evident when she received the much-needed attention she had been denied for so long. Grooming her, removing the matting, and bathing her took several hours. Throughout the process, she stayed silent, appearing to be either genuinely unhappy or sincerely grateful for the care she was receiving. She nestled into Steffen’s arms after her bath, emitting a contented sigh, a clear evidence of her lengthy struggle for survival.
Pear was given a full medical examination the next day by a veterinarian. She was discovered to be a senior dog with a number of extra health conditions that require maintenance. Pear, on the other hand, is predicted to be ready for adoption in just a few weeks with adequate care and dedication. Pear’s sweet demeanor comes through despite her hard start in life, and Steffen believes she will make a great companion for someone, delivering unlimited affection and becoming the ultimate lap dog.
