In this heartfelt performance, a father takes the stage on America’s Got Talent and delivers a moving rendition of ‘Against All Odds’ by Phil Collins. He opens up about the recent tragic loss of his wife in a helicopter accident.

“And there’s nothin’ left here to remind me, just the memory of your face

Ooh, take a look at me now, well there’s just an empty space

And you coming back to me is against the odds, and that’s what I’ve got to face”

Matt Mauser, a 51-year-old resident of California, shares his home with his children. Tragically, he experienced the devastating loss of his wife in the helicopter crash that claimed the life of Kobe Bryant in January 2020.

“She was simply an incredibly humble, powerful, and beautiful human being,” Matt expresses about his wife during an interview on AGT. “When she left that day, she tenderly kissed me and whispered, ‘I love you.’ Those were the final words my beloved wife ever said to me.”

Matt and his wife were both schoolteachers and had been married for 15 years before she passed away. They had three adorable children who accompanied Matt to his AGT audition.

“My attention was immediately drawn to my children,” Matt shared. And you think to yourself, ‘Okay, she would want me to keep going.’ She wants for our children to live joyful lives.”

As Matt prepares to perform ‘Against All Odds’ by Phil Collins for the judges, his children excitedly watch from the side of the stage.

“I’m so excited for Dad’s singing,” says the youngest child to her older sister.

And the performance delivered by Matt is truly incredible and powerful! The depth of emotion in his voice while singing this touching song was truly evident.

“It’s important to me that my children understand that, despite the challenges we’ve faced this year, those challenges won’t shape our family’s identity,” he shares. “It’s important for my children to understand the importance of finding joy in life and staying positive.” If this can somehow help my children in pursuing their dreams, then I’ll gladly accept it.”

Matt receives a resounding approval from the judges, followed by a heartwarming moment as his children rush onto the stage to embrace him in celebration. He certainly made his wife proud!
