Bill Cobbs, Night at the Museum and The Bodyguard Actor, Dead at 90

Bill Cobbs, the beloved actor known for his unforgettable performances in movies such as Night at the Museum and The Bodyguard, has passed away. He was ninety years old.

According to a post on Facebook by one of Cobbs’ family members, the actor passed away on Tuesday, June 25 at his home in California. The news of his passing was initially reported by TMZ.

«Bill, a cherished figure in the lives of many, recently celebrated his 90th birthday in the company of his beloved family and friends,» his family wrote in a heartfelt message.

«It brings us solace as a family to know that Bill has found peace and eternal rest with his Heavenly Father. We kindly request your prayers and words of encouragement during this challenging period.»

Susan Zachary, Cobb’s talent representative for many years, expressed her heartfelt sentiments in a statement, saying, «He was a cherished and devoted person… An incredibly talented actor, excelling in the fields of acting, directing, and being a compassionate human being. His absence will be deeply felt by everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.»

Bill was an incredibly skilled actor and director. Zachary mentioned that he greatly admired the actor’s dedication to his craft, as well as his generosity towards other actors, family, and friends. He was known for being incredibly giving with his time, energy, and support for up-and-coming talent. He was a revered icon to many and deservedly so.»

The actor, with a background as an Air Force radar technician before his Hollywood fame, was born in Cleveland, Ohio. As stated in his IMDb biography, he made the bold decision to relocate to New York City in 1970 at the age of 36, driven by his unwavering passion for acting. In 1974, he made his first appearance in a movie called The Taking of Pelham One Two Three.

Cobbs has an impressive filmography, including Air Bud from 1997, Demolition Man from 1993, and The People Under the Stairs from 1991. He appeared alongside Whitney Houston and Kevin Costner in the 1992 film The Bodyguard, and he portrayed Reginald in the Night at the Museum movies alongside Dick Van Dyke and the late Mickey Rooney.

In 2020, Cobbs was honored with a Daytime Emmy Award for his exceptional performance as Mr. Hendrickson on the series Dino Dana.
