«Did you manage to set up the camera as we discussed?» She asked.

«Yes,» I responded. I’m here now, glued to my laptop screen, fully committed to finding a solution to this.

Once the footage finished loading, the revelation that unfolded was truly astonishing.

Both of my children were not responsible.

It definitely wasn’t Noah.

It was Lily, Ben’s wife, who was caught in the act as she discreetly took out money and carefully positioned Grace’s hairpins near the jar to deceive.

«What on earth?» I couldn’t help but exclaim, captivated by the image of Lily on my monitor.

To be honest, I had doubts about Lily from the beginning. She and Ben had a short-lived romance before he realized she was the one he wanted to spend the rest of his life with.

He confidently announced his intention to marry her, asking for my mother’s ring.

«But isn’t it too soon?» I was unsure, reluctant to let go of the heirloom.

«Yes, it is,» he confessed. «But I am truly captivated by her.»

With some hesitation, we agreed to a small wedding in our backyard, opting to push aside any reservations and stay close to my son.

That evening, I felt an overwhelming urge to share the discovery with Noah.

«Hey Noah, can I talk to you for a sec?» I walked up to him while he was engrossed in the television.

“Darling, what’s troubling you?” His attention suddenly shifted to me.

«Who?» he wondered, trying to figure out which child it could be.

«Lily.»

«Lily?» he exclaimed. “How could she? And why?”

“I’m unsure of her motives,” I admitted. However, it is important that we approach this matter with sensitivity. Currently, I’ve moved the jar to my closet to maintain peace and prevent any further complications, especially with her upcoming birthday that Ben has been eagerly preparing for.

Noah acknowledged with a nod.

«Alright,» he reluctantly admitted. However, she cannot escape from the consequences.

The next few days were filled with tension. Although I felt betrayed, I still decided to help Ben with the preparations for Lily’s birthday celebration.

At the event, a video compilation meant to be a birthday surprise for Lily. However, instead of the intended content, footage of her stealing was played.

“Lily, is this true?” Ben was taken aback, feeling a mix of confusion and surprise.

«I can explain!» she stammered, feeling completely overwhelmed by the situation that was unfolding.

«How could you?» Ben was clearly upset by her actions and the way she tried to falsely accuse Grace.

«Why, Lily?» Grace interrupted, feeling hurt and confused.

Lily was overcome with emotion, struggling to find a valid explanation for her actions.

«Lily, you have violated our trust. You were welcomed into our family, and yet, you let us down,» he said, filled with disappointment.

Lily, filled with sadness and remorse, could only offer her sincerest apologies.

«What did you spend the money on?» Noah demanded.

She reluctantly confessed to using it for things like getting her nails done and buying snacks.
