Teigen took to social media to update her followers about a recent development that caught their attention during the family’s time at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Observant fans noticed Miles wearing a monitor on his arm in the photos. Once the confusion arose about the meaning of that monitor, she felt compelled to address the situation.

“A lot of you noticed something a little special about a photo I posted a few days ago,” she wrote in a picture of her, Miles and Luna as they held up sign to support USA’s star gymnast Simone Biles. “Luna, Miles and I celebrating Simone and team USA. Miles had his arm up, soooo many of you reached out to say the most beautiful and incredible words I have ever witnessed on this platform.”

In a recent update to her followers, the model shared the news that her six-year-old child has been diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes.

She continued, «You couldn’t help but notice his type-1 diabetes monitor, and you showed him an incredible amount of love and support in every way imaginable. I have been absolutely amazed by the incredible kindness of this community. I know. Things could definitely be worse! It’s truly heartbreaking to see the struggles that parents all over the world are facing. Every time our phones blare a red alert, I remind myself of this. And we are so blessed to have so much help and wonderful, kind, huge-hearted specialist.”

As per online resources, Type 1 diabetes, previously referred to as juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, is a long-term condition. When this condition occurs, the pancreas produces insufficient or no insulin. Insulin plays a crucial role in facilitating the entry of sugar (glucose) into cells for energy production. There are various factors that can contribute to the development of type 1 diabetes, including genetics and certain viruses. While type 1 diabetes typically manifests in childhood or adolescence, it can also occur in adults. Despite extensive research, type 1 diabetes remains incurable.

Teigen shared that Miles received a diagnosis following his battle with shigella during his time at camp. As the six-year-old fell ill, his doctor noticed a discrepancy in his blood work and decided to investigate further.

«Many of his friends were also sick with it, as they all attended the same camp and, well, these things happen,» she explained. However, the doctors sensed that there was something unusual about his blood test results. Since then, I’ve come to realize that this is often how many young children end up being diagnosed with type-1 diabetes, even when they initially go to the hospital for a different reason. Through further testing, it became evident that he is currently experiencing the ‘honeymoon period’ of a lifetime with T1. Last night, we administered his inaugural dose of insulin, and now we embark on this new journey. It’s been quite an adventure for us, stepping into this new world and soaking up knowledge as we go.»

Teigen expressed her gratitude to everyone for their unwavering encouragement and support.

She added, «I wanted to take a moment to express my heartfelt gratitude for your incredible kindness.» It’s incredibly comforting for Miles to realize that there are countless others who can relate to his experiences, providing him with a sense of solace and a sense of security

In a recent post, the model opened up about the powerful impact that reading the book Year One With Type-1 had on her. She couldn’t help but feel overwhelmed with emotion as she shared the experience of reading it to her son.

«John and I read it to Miles last night and I couldn’t help but burst into tears at this page. I had to excuse myself from the room so he wouldn’t see me sobbing,» she wrote. “He loves the book so much already. Anyhow, you are not alone either! And we promise to be there for you guys like you have been there for us already!.”

Teigen’s comments received an outpouring of support from her well-known friends and followers.
Nick Jonas, another celebrity who has been living with Type 1 diabetes since his early teen years liked the post. In a recent post, Teigen took to social media to share a heartwarming encounter her family had at the Olympics. She recounted how they unexpectedly crossed paths with  Jonas and were touched by his kindness towards Miles.

«My two brothers have Type 1 diabetes and they absolutely adore that book. It’s great to see that @nickjonas also appreciates this. Encourage your son to surround himself with inspiring individuals who can show him that he’s not alone and that he can achieve anything. It can be intimidating at first, but with practice, it will become second nature and you all will excel,» a user expressed.

«Nick was incredibly kind to him!,» she responded to the person who left a comment. “We were so lucky to run into him.”

Teigen and Legend have three additional children in addition to Miles: Luna, Wren, and Esti. The couple was seen at the Olympic opening ceremony, accompanied by their two oldest children.
