According to reports from ESPN and Sports Illustrated, the tragic news broke on Sunday, July 28, that the talented 31-year-old baseball player had passed away in a devastating traffic accident. According to a report from the Dominican news outlet El Pregonero, SI revealed that the incident took place in a neighborhood in the Santiago province of the Dominican Republic, right in front of his father’s home.
The passing of Moronta was confirmed by both the Major League Baseball Players Association (MLBPA) and Liga Mexicana de Beisbol — the Mexican Baseball League. They expressed their condolences through statements shared on X (formerly known as Twitter).

As reported by the Los Angeles Times, Moronta hails from Santiago de los Caballeros in the Dominican Republic, where he was born in 1993. Back in 2010, this talented relief pitcher joined the Giants as an international free agent at the young age of 17. Fast forward to 2017, and he finally made his MLB debut, showcasing his skills as one of the top relievers in the league.

Moronta’s time with the Giants spanned two seasons, but unfortunately, he had to undergo shoulder surgery in 2019. As a result, he was unable to participate in the entire 2020 season. However, he made a comeback in 2021, playing in four games.
