Color Change Mix a few drops of iodine with water and add some honey. If the mixture turns blue, the honey has corn starch added to it.

Flammability Real honey is flammable. Dip a dry matchstick into the honey and try to light it. Genuine honey will cause a spark or even ignite. Fake honey, due to impurities and moisture, will prevent the matchstick from catching fire.

Water Test Fill a glass with lukewarm water and add a tablespoon of honey. Real honey will sink to the bottom, while fake honey will dissolve quickly.

Weight Real honey is heavier than its artificial counterpart. A liter jar of genuine honey should weigh at least 1.4 kg (about 3 lbs).
