A teenager has been praised for his heroic actions after saving a woman who accidentally drove her car into a lake.
During a leisurely day of fishing, 15-year-old John Agnello witnessed a car plunging into Lake St. Clair, disrupting the peacefulness of his surroundings. Without a second thought, he dashed towards the rocky area where the incident took place, joining forces with another kind-hearted individual to swim towards the vehicle.
“When we laid eyes on the car, I felt an immediate sense of urgency,” John recalled. “The door wouldn’t move, but the window was open. We had to convince the woman to climb out through the window.”
After successfully rescuing the woman, John received news that there could potentially be a child still trapped inside the sunken vehicle.
“There’s a 3-year-old in there,” John recounted.
John fearlessly plunged into the water, determined to find the child, and used a rock to shatter the rear windshield. After a thorough check, he confirmed no one else was inside.
Beth Agnello, John’s mother, is filled with immense pride for her son’s selfless deeds.
“I am truly amazed by the incredible support from the community. Glory to God, I hope this experience helps John maintain his humility and grow in maturity,” she said.
The woman was quickly taken to a nearby hospital, and her current condition is still uncertain. It’s evident that John’s quick thinking and bravery probably saved her life.
