Carrie Underwood surprised many by leading worship at a church in Tennessee, shaking up the typical Sunday service format.
Most churches follow a standard structure for their Sunday morning services, beginning with church leaders welcoming the congregation. This introductory segment aims to create a sense of belonging and appreciation for attendees.
Following this, churches typically transition into the praise and worship segment, which usually involves singing several songs—some congregations might sing just a couple, while others could perform five or six. This portion precedes the pastor’s sermon based on his weekly spiritual message. While there may be slight variations, many churches adhere to this general outline for their Sunday services.
However, Rolling Hills Community Church in Franklin, Tennessee, made a notable departure from this norm, and it had nothing to do with the service’s structure. According to CCM Magazine, a former American Idol winner and Grammy Award recipient made an unexpected appearance to assist with leading worship.
In a social media clip, Carrie appeared on stage without any prior announcement, joining the choir and musicians to perform several worship songs, including «Goodness of God» and «I Thank God.»
Carrie’s participation shouldn’t come as a shock, given her vocal commitment to her faith. In an interview with the Cincinnati Enquirer, she discussed the profound influence her beliefs have had on her life and career.
«My faith has always played an essential role in my life and career,» she shared. «It means a lot to me to infuse spirituality into my music, which I’ve done in every album I’ve recorded, particularly with my holiday album, ‘My Gift,’ and my gospel hymns album, ‘My Savior,’ which honors the songs I cherished singing in church as I grew up.»
