Father and Twin Sons Cut Enough Storm-Damaged Trees to Fill 80 Trucks – Donate It All to Neighbors Who Need It Most

Every so often, we come across an act of kindness that truly warms the heart.

You know the kind of story I mean—whether it’s someone going above and beyond for a charitable cause or simply doing something kind without expecting anything in return. These actions often bring a sense of joy and fulfillment to those who perform them. However, it’s always nice to acknowledge the individuals who are making genuine efforts to make the world a better place.

Shane McDaniel and his twin sons, Henry and Harrison, are prime examples of such people. Shane, who spent much of his childhood gathering firewood with his own father, wanted his 21-year-old sons to carry on the tradition.

The family, based in Lake Stevens, Washington, had plenty of work to do after a severe storm hit their area.

As Shane explained, “I had a huge amount of wood to cut due to storm damage and fallen trees. The pile just kept growing. Eventually, we realized we could do something more meaningful with it.” The family came up with an idea that would not only clear the wood but also benefit many others in the process.

In an interview with PEOPLE Magazine, Shane said, “The Pacific Northwest can be tough, with cold and wet weather. When I started cutting, I realized how much people needed it. Many stopped by offering to buy the wood, but we just started giving it away.”

From March to October 2018, Shane, Henry, and Harrison worked tirelessly, chopping enough firewood to fill a staggering 80 trucks.

Shane then posted on Facebook, inviting those in need to come collect the firewood. The response was overwhelming. People were moved by the family’s generosity, and many even offered to help deliver the wood to those unable to pick it up themselves.

“It’s incredible to see,” Shane said. “You can feel a sense of pride and generosity that I don’t think was there before.”

He added, “When you help others, they don’t forget. I love being able to do that.”
