Donald Trump marked his election victory with an appearance alongside tech mogul Elon Musk, but not everyone in Musk’s family shares his celebratory mood.
Elon Musk’s son, Vivian Wilson, has made it clear he won’t be around for Trump’s second term.
“I don’t see my future being in the United States,” Vivian stated on Threads.
With former president Donald Trump preparing to assume office again, several celebrities have pledged to leave the U.S. if he regains power. Big names like Cher, Sharon Stone, Barbra Streisand, and Whoopi Goldberg have all voiced intentions to move, but with Trump’s victory confirmed, it remains to be seen if these vows will hold. However, Elon Musk’s son, Vivian Wilson, appears intent on following through.
At 20 years old, Vivian, who legally changed his name and gender in 2022, says he plans to leave the country after Trump’s win.
“I’ve felt this way for some time, but yesterday solidified it. I don’t see my future in the United States. Even if he’s in office only four years, and even if anti-trans laws somehow don’t come, the people who willingly voted him in aren’t disappearing anytime soon,” Vivian shared on Threads.
Previously known as Xavier Musk, Vivian made headlines two years ago by publicly distancing himself from his billionaire father. He declared, “I no longer live with or wish to be related to my biological father in any way, shape, or form.” Taking his mother’s surname, he aimed to create a clear separation from his father’s high-profile life.
Musk, father to 12 children, has openly expressed unease with his child’s transition and the strained relationship that followed.
In a July interview, Musk made controversial remarks, referring to his “son” as being “dead.”
“It happened with one of my older sons, where I was essentially tricked into signing documents for one of my older sons,” Musk claimed. He explained that the transition occurred during the COVID-19 pandemic, a period he described as chaotic and rife with misinformation. Musk recounted that he was told his child might attempt suicide if the transition didn’t proceed. “At the time, I didn’t fully understand what was happening,” he added.
An outspoken Trump supporter, Musk has also linked his child’s decision to what he calls the “woke mind virus,” asserting that this ideological influence led to his son’s “death.”
The tensions within Musk’s family bring to light a broader cultural divide in the United States, reflecting the nation’s current political turmoil.
While Vivian is determined to break from his father’s legacy, Elon Musk remains firm in his stance, making his views on gender identity and his relationship with his child a frequent topic of public discussion.
As Trump returns to office, it’s evident that political and personal conflicts will continue to shape public discourse and impact family relationships in unexpected ways. And as for Vivian’s departure? Only time will tell if he follows through on his promise to leave the country.
