If Your Baby Doesn’t Sleep, Use This One Minute Trick

For six exhausting months, nothing worked.

I rocked, I sang, I walked laps. My baby screamed every night. My partner and I were zombies. Everyone had advice—none of it worked. Until one night, in total desperation, I tried something I’d read online: a 1-minute wrap-and-hum trick.

Here’s what I did: I tightly swaddled my daughter (arms in), placed one warm hand over her chest, then began humming one low note. I didn’t change pitch. I just held the note like a chant.

She stopped crying in 20 seconds. By the 60-second mark, her eyes closed. I stood there frozen.

I tried it again the next night. It worked. Again and again.

Experts say the steady hum mimics womb sounds and regulates their nervous system. I say I’ll never forget the night everything changed.

Sleep doesn’t have to be a nightmare. Sometimes the best solutions aren’t fancy—they’re primal.
