Martha, a retired librarian from Oregon, had just beaten breast cancer. She was on her first walk outside in weeks when she saw a young woman sobbing on a bench.
The woman had just been kicked out by her boyfriend—with no money, no car, no food.
Martha didn’t hesitate. She took the girl home, fed her, gave her a spare bedroom, and called a friend who owned a hair salon.
Today, that girl is a certified stylist with her own apartment. She calls Martha “Grandma” and visits every weekend.
Martha says, “Sometimes people don’t need advice. They need a chance.”
